The parents go to their school each day to check on their desks and meet the teachers. The kids have a rigid routine of gymnastics, soccer, music lessons and chores. Meanwhile in Ohio, the Brown's live a chaotic life which includes yo-yos, rock music and taking life as it comes. Their kids are allowed to jump on the furniture.

The Holland's also spoil their children, Courtney (12) and Curtis (7). The Brown's are a fit family from Florida, as dad is a former military man turned fitness guru. "Sarge" (39) and his wife Joy (39), have developed their own fitness boot camp instructing up to four classes a day and putting their students on the path to excellence. Son Sevin (8) has nightmares of vegetables chasing him if he eats unhealthy food. Sarge is so busy that he has little time to spend on his kids Sevin and Loren (5).

Washington state is the home of the Mallick family, biker parents and their 2 devilish children. The mom, Jennifer, likes to dress as a "hot motorcycle mama" which Jason likes to flaunt. They have rowdy friends and don't censor their sons, ages 7 and 10. The Stewart family live in Pennsylvania and are super structured. Mom and dad are proud of their Irish heritage and instill it in their two children, ages 15 and 14, with up to four hours a day of Irish activities.

The Padovan-Hickmans family live in Virginia off the beaten path, inside a log cabin without the modern conveniences such as electricity and a refrigerator. Steve (60) and DeLaura (46) are raising their two daughters, Tara (11) and Maren (8) to be self-sufficient and environmentally conscious. They wear head flashlights, raise chickens and make their own cheese. They also use the same bathwater to conserve their resources. DeLaura will switch places with Shannon Nicole (33), a woman who loves spending money and dresses to impress, along with her husband Shannon Michael (35) and twins Nicholas and Alexa (6).

The Taylor family from Texas own a cattle ranch and live for the rodeo. Dad Calvin (33), a World Champion Team Roper, and his wife Heather (34), are raising their four children, ages 4-12, compete in barrel racing and roping. They have been taught to be hardworking winners. Calvin expects hot dinners of meat and potatoes but refuses to do any housework. Meanwhile, the Brazenwood family are a new-age group from North Carolina. Father Kelly (37), is an astrologist who has authored a novel about a fictional world named "Thandoria" starring a boy named Arian Brazenwood, which is the name he later gave to his real-life son here on planet Earth. Wife Christina (28), is Arian's step-mom is an energy healer who lets her astrological chart dictate her days. She enjoys spending time outside talking to her friends the plants, and isn't afraid to rub dirt all over her body or even have a taste of it while communing with nature. She also likes to don funky costumes and teaches a dance class called "soul shaking." When it comes to domestic duties, they all chip in, and they prefer a vegan diet.
