An early episode had Bart and his friends stealing a car and driving south to Tennessee to visit the World's Fair. So, it would likely be a state above Tennessee. |

Don't read this tagline! You read it, didn't you? |

Credit to Wikipedia:
The location is meant to be Oregon. Matt Groening came from Oregon. Flanders is a street in Oregon. Mayor Quimby was a distructive mayor in Oregon. The nuclear power plant is an exact resemble of the one newly imploded in Oregon. Lovejoy was a famous Oregon pastor. Wiggims was a famous police officer in Oregon.
Although some of you have other ideas, this is pretty convincing stuff to me... |

A tagline is a terrible thing to waste. |

Impossible. In the episode "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace," Homer and Bart are driving to New Jersey, where he says that he's "taking Bart across state lines" and passes a sign that says "Exit to New Jersey, Michigan, Oregon, and Texas." It can't be Oregon.
God, I sound like a nerd... lol. |

I don't know for sure, but the producers might have fared having everybody believing the state was Oregon, so maybe they added the sign so that those suspicions people had disappeared. That's what I would do if I were them. |

Well, there is this one guy who's been following the show, looking around for clues, and basically tried a process of elimination approach as to where they might be. He's down to 13 states. Whoever he is, he must have a lot of time on his hands. |

I was going to remove this post, but then the one(s) below me wouldn't make any sense. They won't now either, but now you know that they originally made sense... |

Only up to season 13? That's pretty far behind.
I looked up that quote, and apparently, he was actually talking about baby names, not what state they're in. Even then, I don't think Oregon really has that much significance to the universe of the show.
Frankly, I don't think we'll ever know which state they live in. Maybe they'll tell us at the series finale, if they ever have one. |

This guy kind of eliminates half of those remaining 13 states. Fresh seafood in the central states from the fisherman is doubtful. That makes Maine a good choice, but the weather is all wrong plus I've been there a few times to stay with my cousins, and the terrain and style of housing is all wrong. Cindy could tell you that the weather in Idaho is snowy nearly half a year, so I'd think Bart's shorts would be unlikely worn each day, lol. Kansas, Colorado, Arkansas, Kentucky, North and South Carolina all have accents to their voices. This leaves Illinois and Indiana as likely...except for the winter weather again.
I really think its a mythical place. |

Yeah, it has to be a mythical place. One time, their address had on an envelope the letters "NT," which apparently stood for North Tacoma. Then there was The Simpsons Movie, which said their border states were Ohio, Kentucky, Maine, and Nevada... also impossible. Then there was that whole "North Kentucky" thing... |

If you read what I wrote again, you'll see that I said they were discussing adopting a child, not states. Concerning the people who talked about a mythical place, I think so too. Besides, when the show has been on for 20 seasons (soon 21), it's hard for the producers to come up with a logical state to place Springfield. I don't think we'll ever know which state it is exactly. |
