The 1972-present version of The Price Is Right is actually a revival; the original version, hosted by Bill Cullen, ran from 1956 to 1965 on ABC (1956-circa 1960) and CBS. In that version, four people had to bid on a certain item such as a washing machine; the one who came closest to the actual retail price, without going over, won it. |
The airing schedule for the end of season 1 was plagued by preemptions due to Watergate coverage; as a result, four episodes produced in season 1 were aired during season 2. The episodes with production codes 0492D, 0493D, 0513D, and 0533D were aired in October and November of season 2. |
