Great episode! I was worried Sheppard and McKay would be eaten by a whale, but figured that would take too long to resolve. I kind of wonder if the use of the ZPM to protect the ship during the deflection would severely drained it (Faris said he thinks not).

I also think there is a growing relationship between Teyla and Ronon. Anyone disagree?

Great episode indeed, i loved it. There was a horror element at the begining that slowly developed into the good old sci fi that we all like.

Why did they not use the three ZPMs to take Atlantis to Earth? They should refocus the efforts to protect Earth using the Atlantis ship. Plus, that gets them back to Earth and the Milky Way galaxy, where all the Jaffa and SGC teams are.

They could also put thousands of researchers on the ship to research its technology.

Interesting idea. Besides from the fact that it wasn't Atlantis anymore (far from home, Wraith, no Ori, Ancient Replicators, ...) there might be some technical problems.

The Daedalus needed a new enhanced engine so the travel time between the galaxies isn't that long anymore... It's not unlikely that Atlantis doesn't have this kind of enhanced engine.

Three ZPMs might suffice for travel within a galaxy, but maybe not for a travel between galaxies.

Good point. Another good thought is that they don’t have the technical ability to fly the ship, even with three ZPM’s. Plus, the manpower needed might require many more skilled people traveling to the city.

I still really think moving SGA to Earth would greatly go a long way to increasing the series life. It was great to have two separate galaxies when there were two shows, but with one show, they need to be here, near Earth.

Hey, maybe we need a new thread on our ideas of how SGA would be if based on Earth. My first thought is how great it would be to see city of Atlantis right there in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. JMHO.

The know how to activate the stardrive as was demonstrated by McKay in "The Tower" so that's not the issue, the issues are:

1. THE STARDRIVE IS DAMAGED!!!
2. Atlantis might get destroyed in the process and it would be lost forever if the Ori managed to destroy it.
3. It's safer from the Ori threat in Pegasus.
4. The Trust would almost definately get a permanent foothold in it if it were in the Milky Way.
5. Where to park it? On Earth? I think not. The Atlantic ocean? That's international waters which means that it would be seen by ships, airplanes and such and no one could have jurisdiction over it, legally. Plus, I'm sure the IOA wants it to stay in Pegasus.
6. It would drain precious energy from the ZPMs which could be used for more practical perposes.

Back to the ZPM issue, I doubt it severly drained it because it [the sun bolt] only lasted minutes and the shield showed no signs of weakening, plus, I'm sure a ZPM contains much, much more power than we all think. Unofficial stats are that a ZPM emits 4929 TW (Terrawatt) per second or 4.929 EW [Exawatt]) So those stats make sense to everyone, a city the size of New York could run on 1.2 MW (Megawatt) of power so the ZPM has much, much more power than anyone probably thought.

Scales of power:
Watt
Kilowatt
Megawatt
Gigawatt
Terrawatt
Exawatt

It may be a little off since eletricity isn't my thing.

Indeed. After tera there is peta and then exa ;-)

Then there are the less known and less important (who uses Exa anyways?) zetta and yotta... You might want to read more about metric prefixes in the wikipedia article...

Wow thanks for the link. I thought petawatts was a made up term.

Thanks again!

Faris,
You're welcome.

Well I havn't seen Peta or even Exa in use for anything, from 10^15 the scientific notation is usually used, so yes you need such a list to verify it
