When the entire crew is rendered unconscious, a quartet of large-eared, bickering thieves invades Enterprise. These plunderers, the Ferengi, are determined to make off with everything that's not bolted down. Meanwhile, Trip awakens after a long stint in the decon chamber and senses that something's not right on the ship. After spotting the thieves in action, Trip does his best to stay hidden and formulate a plan.

Episode Notes |
| |
Date: 2151 | We learn that there are only 173 Rules of Acquisition at this point in history, as opposed to 285 by the 24th century. | Even though the Star Trek audience know the aliens are Ferengi, the Ferengi never introduce or mention their race. Therefore it stays true to the Star Trek time line that the name of the species is first introduced to humans in Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "'The Last Outpost". |

Episode Quotes |
| |
T'Pol: There are times I wish Vulcans hadn't learned to repress their violent tendencies. | Ulis: Are you calling me a Thief?
Muk: Everyone knows you 'd steal the wax out of your own mother's ears. | Krem: That's rule number 45. I’ve memorised all 173, including the most important one ‘A man is only worth the sum of his possessions.'
Archer: Back on my homeworld that kind of thinking almost destroyed our civilisation. |
