• Season 9 confirmed but with more crew changes

On February 4th, 2009, EW.com confirmed that Smallville would be returning for a ninth season. Although not officially stated, it can be assumed that Tom Welling has completed contract negotiations and will remain on the show.

This news came a few weeks after the L.A.Times report on February 6th that producers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin are leaving the show for a Melrose Place reboot. With them gone, it is likely that the remaining two exectutive producers, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, will step in as show runners.
