Brainiac warns them that since they’ve refused him, now people are going to be hurt. He then flies up into the sky, leaving Clark unable to follow.

Back in the house, Clark identifies Brainiac for Kara and he wonders if the Brain Interactive Construct and her father were working together. Kara furiously denies the idea and says it’s time for them to work together… and fly.

Jimmy meets with Lois at the Daily Planet and suggests they work together on a story, as Chloe has taken off to help Clark. Lois reluctantly agrees and then shows him her most recent investigation: a report on the shooting death of Patricia Swann.

Lex’s doctor tells him that everything is ready as planned and asks him about what he knows. Lex explains that since he was shot in the head and almost died, he’s started to remembering things that were blacked out due to the shock of the first meteor shower.

The Past

Young Lex is playing hide-and-seek at the manor with his friends Oliver Queen, Patricia Swann, and Jason Teague. Lex hides near Lionel’s office and overhears him talking with Edward Queen and Robert Teague. Dr. Swann is on the way but Lionel wants to open an envelope now that Swann has given them that holds the secret to gaining power over the Traveler. Teague and Queen oppose him, saying they should wait for Swann. They discuss the fact that Queen is going to Zurich with Swann. After Lionel and Teague leave, Queen examines a key and puts it in a locket.

The Present

Lex realizes that what he’s seeking is in Zurich and opens Patricia Swann’s locket. Inside is the key, and he gives it to the doctor and tells her to go to Zurich and find which box it opens.

Jimmy and Lois disguise themselves as gardeners and sneak into Lionel’s office, then ask him for comments about Patricia Swann’s death. Lionel denies any involvement, even when Jimmy shows him phone records putting the two in constant contact on the day of her murder. Lois shows him Patricia’s autopsy photo, which confirms that she had a locket but it was stolen after her death. Lionel is unimpressed and has security take them out. Once they’re gone, he removes a locket from around his neck, a locket that contains a second key.

Kara tries to help Clark learn to fly but he finally gives up and insists they should be spending their time looking for Brainiac. They finally figure out that Brainiac must need some form of energy to sustain himself.

At Isis, Lana arrives when the power flickers. Brainiac come in and drives his shapeshifted fingers into her skull.

Clark goes to see Chloe at the Planet and she reports that she’s been unable to connect Lex to Veritas. Everything leads to Lionel. She’s also been tracking power surges thanks to a contact in the power company, and has discovered surges all across the globe. She detects a new surge in Metropolis at Isis and Clark superspeed runs there to investigate. He finds Lionel, leaving a note for Lana. Clark accuses him of killing Patricia, Edward Teague, and the Queens. Lionel denies killing Patricia and tries to explain, but Clark refuses to listen. Upon learning that Lana had a visitor, Clark leaves to conduct a further search while Lionel leaves an envelope on the desk marked “Urgent.”

Clark finally goes back to the barn where he sees Lana holding a boiling pot of water. Her hand is burned but she doesn’t seem to notice the pain, and her eyes are silvered over. When Kara comes in, the robotic Lana writes a note in Kryptonian, which says that Kara should turn herself over to Brainiac at the Daily Planet. Kara considers the offer and then leaves over Clark’s objections.

Lois and Jimmy have followed Lionel to Isis and break in. They find the envelope addressed to Lana, and discover it has a photo showing that Lex paid off Patricia’s driver to kill her.

Lex’s doctor returns from Zurich to report that the bank requires both keys to allow access to the safety deposit box.

The Past

Lex is playing outside of his father’s office, looking at a headline saying that the Queens have died in an ocean crash. He goes over to his father’s door and sees a henchman give Lionel a key that he took off of the bodies. Lionel then calls his mysterious ally and warns that they need to control the Traveler. He comes out of the office, sees Lex, and offers him the chance to go with him to Smallville… on the day of the first meteor shower.

The Present

Lex realizes that his father has the second key.

Clark finds Kara on the roof of the Daily Planet and tries to stop her from going with Brainiac. Brainiac arrives and explains that he has infected Lana with a nanovirus that only he can cure. She’s conscious of the fact that she’s trapped and controlled by him, constantly suffering. Kara decides to go with Brainiac so that he will cure Lana, and the two of them fly off into space, where they disappear in an explosion.

Lionel finds Chloe and tries to convince her to speak to Clark on his behalf. She refuses, insisting that Lionel has always viewed Clark as a weapon to possess. Lionel doesn’t deny killing Edward Teague and the Queens but insists that he has changed since Jor-El chosen him as his vessel. Chloe refuses to believe him and goes to a clinic where Clark has taken Lana. Lana is still trapped by the nanovirus and as Clark weeps, Brainiac speaks through Lana saying that Clark is too late.
