I applaud the courage of this family for 'coming out'. I'm not Mormon and this lifestyle would not be for me. However, I find this show to be very educational and I can certainly understand how and why this lifestyle works for this family. There is so much support, love, caring and respect and the children appear to be very happy. It would be a travesty if this family were to face legal actions because there seems to be no abuse, coercion, manipulation or threatening behavior. I think what people struggle with is the sexual aspect of this lifestyle more than anything and I think that 'people' need to get over themselves. The same fears always arise when the topic is homosexuality. This is so ignorant and I think that it is important to remember that neither polygamy, nor homosexuality is about sex. It's about belonging, family, acceptance, love and so much more. As a feminist, I feel that these women are very empowered, because they chose this lifestyle and they clearly have their own ' voices'. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what they are doing and if anything, this family appears to be more loving and nurturing towards each other and especially their children, than almost all of the traditional families that I know. I want to wish this beautiful family the very best for the future. Review posted on Sunday, March 13th 2011 at 6:17 pm |
