Kaminari-Mon: Sensoji
The English voice cast has some fun with the Japanese placed called Kaminari-Mon, 雷門 in Japanese. Jouji pronounces the 'o' in 'mon' like an English short 'o' instead of a long 'o', which is how the Japanese 'o' always sounds, and then Fuu and Mugen pronounce it as the English word 'man'. The Kaminari-Mon, which translates to Thunder Gate in English, is part of the Sensōji Shrine, located in Asakusa, Taitō Ward, Tōkyō. More information on the Kaminari-Mon can be found here. | Dutch East India Company: Dejima
The foreigners shown in "Stranger Searching" arrived from The Netherlands via Nagasaki. During the European's exclusion from Japan, only the Dutch East India Trading Company could trade with Japanese merchants. Also, the European traders could only trade in Nagasaki, which had an artificial island created called Dejima, where the Dutch lived and worked. More information on Dejima can be found here. |
