| Did a T-Rex really kill someone?

!!!!!! This review contains spoilers !!!!!!
Juliet is paid a visit by Shawn, who is disappointed by how he hasn't received any calls from Chief Vick. It turns out Detective Lassiter has been a case-solving machine of late, solving nine cases in a row, so the department simply hasn't needed Shawn's help. When a new case comes up, Shawn and Gus tag along with the intent to convince the chief they could handle it. A dead body was found along the beach, and the body has several teeth marks across the abdomen. The large gap between each tooth makes it a little difficult to figure out. Lassiter comes up with a few possibilities, while Shawn determines the culprit was a dinosaur. Not surprisingly, Shawn isn't given the case. He's frankly laughed at. Even Gus can't believe Shawn's theory.
Back at Psych's headquarters, Shawn and Gus discuss dinosaurs, a passion of Gus' when he was a kid. Shawn is certain the bite radius is the same as that of a T-Rex.
Chief Vick, Lassiter, and Juliet are at the coroner's office examining the body when Shawn walks in wearing the T-Rex head Gus made as a project in grade school. Shawn's intention is to check the bite radius and compare it to that of the T-Rex Gus made.
When Shawn drops by his dad's house to return the truck he borrowed, but he is surprised to see that a therapist is visiting. It seems the therapist is there for an intervention aimed at Shawn. Everyone is concerned about Shawn's mental stability, particularly after his latest theory of a dinosaur being responsible for a man's death. Shawn manages to use his powers of observation to surprise and impress the therapist. Just then, Lassiter and the chief enter to tell Shawn some intriguing news. The dead guy is a paleontologist.
We soon learn the deceased man is a professor who had been showing up to class disheveled and the department may have been about to be closed down.
Shawn and Gus drop by the professor's house, but find the police have already arrived and have the place covered pretty well. They decide to take a look at the shed in the backyard, which isn't being searched yet. Shawn and Gus break in and find the shed is full of dinosaur bones and digging tools. Lassiter and Juliet arrive soon after Shawn and Gus, so they quickly sneak out. When Lassiter, Juliet, Shawn, and Gus search the shed a little more thoroughly, it becomes clear that Lassiter really is at the top of his game. He's noticing things he wouldn't ordinarily notice. When Lassiter and Juliet leave, Shawn and Gus are on their way out when Shawn spots a wooden crate used to hold fruit. The fruit stand is over fifty miles away and it's obvious the professor has been there a number of times.
At the fruit stand, Shawn and Gus meet a gentleman who owns the joint and he tells Shawn he didn't know the professor's name, but he was a frequent customer. The man goes on to tell Shawn and Gus the professor would always drive up a nearby hill and often doesn't return until the following morning. Intrigued, Shawn and Gus investigate, driving over the hill and discover a large number of holes dug in a field. They are chased off of the property by the sound of gunshots.
Shawn and Gus swing by the Santa Barbara Police Department, but it seems Lassiter and Juliet are already there with even more info than Shawn and Gus have. Frustrated, Shawn and Gus pay Henry a visit to borrow a few shovels. Henry objects to the idea because of the danger Shawn would be subjecting himself to.
Once Shawn and Gus are able to get some digging equipment together, they head out to the farm and begin digging in a specific hole. The reason Shawn chose the particular hole is because of a sketch he saw in the professor's shed. After Shawn and Gus dig the dirt out of the hole, they discover a T-Rex skull at the bottom.
Back home, Shawn and Gus discuss why the farm landowner didn't sell or lease the land. To find out why, they decide to simply ask him. Unfortunately, their chat didn't reveal anything. While looking around, Shawn spots a few freshly-dug holes near the farmer's house. Before Shawn and Gus leave, Henry calls and tells Shawn to get away from the farm. Henry was able to remember where he heard the name of the farm before. It seems the owner's partner went missing twenty years ago and hasn't been found.
Shawn immediately puts everything together and asks Juliet, Lassiter, and Chief Vick to come out to the farm. Shawn then reveals the case to everyone, including Henry, who comes out and spoils some of Shawn's fun. The owner didn't like the professor digging on his land and killed him by hitting him in the back of the head with a shovel, when the professor fell into the hole and onto the T-Rex skeleton. Not wanting a trail leading back to the farm, the owner dumped the body in the sea. The owner didn't want the dinosaur discovery to become public, as a lot of people would be wishing to dig on his property. He doesn't want this to happen because he buried his old business partner on the property; he just doesn't remember where... hence the fresh holes near the house.
A little later on, Shawn drops by Henry's house and is disappointed when he sees another intervention attempt. There's a bit of a twist, however. It seems the therapist is there for an intervention on Henry, who seems to have control problems. Henry ends the intervention by chasing the therapist, Shawn, and Gus out of his house.
I really enjoyed tonight's episode. The idea of having a dinosaur be involved in the death of someone was very unexpected and silly, which is very much what Psych is, I suppose. Detective Lassiter's run of great detective work was impressive. Although I enjoy seeing Shawn and Gus solve cases, it's good to see Juliet and Lassiter work well together. One of my favorite cultural references in the episode was easily the "Of Mice and Men" one. Shawn's portrayal of Lenny was hysterical.
