| Swarm of Bees
The Old Testament lists out how actions were taken as "swarms of bees", noting that they devour such as what was done to the Priest in this episode.
| Religious Reference Did you hear about the beach thing tomorrow night? We’re Settin’ stuff on fire- very pagan.
Fire is one the elements that pagans use. Fire represents the creativity and passion that all intellectual and emotional beings have. Emotions will play a role later in the series. In Chinese Yin/Yang the Yin is Water and Yang is Fire so they are opposites. There are also a LOT of mixed (Christianity and Paganism) religion elements used in the series.
And the “Beach thing” is a common party that occurs on beaches where a bonfire is lit, loud music is played at and is normally a fun time… till cops show up.
| Ben Kramer: Well I’m a doctor. That pesky oath. The oath is the “The Hippocratic Oath” that states that a doctor shall do no harm with the knowledge he/she has.
Translated from Greek:
I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygeia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant:

The fish, as a Christian symbol, was again taken from Paganism. The son of the sea goddess was Ichthys, which is also the Greek word for “fish.” At some point it was suggested that Ichthys was an acronym for “Jesus Christ, Son of God.”

· Chi is the first letter of Christos, Greek for "anointed".
· Theta is the first letter of Theou, genitive case of Θεóς "God".

"Christina's Box"
Judy is looking through Christina’s stuff and come up across a box. Judy, then, decides to opens it, then Christina wakes up. There is a chance that the box is to represent Pandora’s Box. In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman. She is most famous for carrying a jar (or box) containing all the world's evils. She releases these evils, and tries to close the lid but it is too late. Along with these evils came Hope which is humanity's only salvation.
| Kingston: She’s also the daughter of a woman. That means she has a choice.
There is a good chance that this is referring to the Adam and Eve story in the Bible. The reference would be Eve having a choice to either obey God or not. The woman was the one with a choice to be good or evil. This could also explain why Christina is a she and not a he; females are known to make choices based off their emotions.
| "A swarm of bees"
Harlan is killed by a swarm of bees. When Christina was looking at her moms’ stuff, it looked like there was a bee trapped in Amber. Bees symbolize industry, community, concentration, planning and saving, working with the spirits of the deceased, industry, prosperity, purity, achieving the so-called impossible, birth, death, resurrection, luck, misfortune and/or other worldly wisdom.
When Harlan dies his body is laid out in the standard Crucifix style where arms are out to the side and feet are laid one on top another.
