| The aftermath of the car accident is revealed as season 4 begins where season 3 left off. Nathan believes that Keith was the reason he got out of the accident, and Rachel lies that she saw Keith during the accident as well in order to get closer to Nathan. Brooke and Lucas break up following Lucas admitting that he kissed Peyton. Peyton finds a mysterious message revealing that she has a brother and a stalker impersonates her brother in order to get close to Peyton. When her stalker attacks Peyton, her real brother and Lucas are able to save her.
Peyton and Lucas become an exclusive couple and other relationships are formed including Brooke who has a short-lived relationship with her teacher, Mr. Chavez, but breaks up with him after he cheats on her. Mouth also has a relationship with Gigi, but she breaks up with him, and later begins to date Shelly, a Clean Teen. However, after they have sex, Shelly and Mouth break up. Brooke begins a relationship Chase, also a Clean Teen, but Chase breaks up after a sex tape that Brooke and Nathan made is exposed. But despite it all, Brooke and Chase are able to work through their problems and get back together. Dan and Karen also become closer, and Dan promises to be their for Karen in Keith's absence, but their rekindled relationship is short-lived when Karen learns Dan murdered Keith. Nathan and Haley's relationship continues to grow and remain strong, especially after it is revealed that Haley is pregnant.
In Whitey's final season as Ravens coach, the team makes it to the state championship with the help of Skills, as well as the return of Lucas who is allowed to play 15 minutes per game. However, their win is marred with tragedy when Nathan's deal with bookie Daunte is broken and Daunte goes after Haley in retribution. Haley suffers major injuries, but her baby does not suffer any injury.
Deb becomes addicted to pills and despite a visit to rehab, Deb attempts suicide.
As season 4 nears its end, Deb attempts suicide, but is sent to rehab where she is able to sober up. Following an attack by Psycho Derek, Peyton and Brooke reunite and promise to be better friends than they were before. Nathan's scholarship to Duke is retracted after his involvements with Daunte are exposed. However, Nathan is able to play college basketball when Whitey, who accepted a position as a college coach, gives Nathan a scholarship to play for him. With the end of their senior year, Brooke confesses to cheating in order for Rachel to be allowed to graduate; Peyton accepts an internship in California, where she and Brooke will live for the summer; Skills receives a basketball scholarship; and both Haley and Karen give birth to their children -- a boy, James Lucas Scott, and a girl, Lily Rose Scott, respectively. As the teens prepare for life after high school, Dan prepares for life in prison after confessing to Keith's murder. | |
