Episode Quotes

Haley: Peyton are you really in love with Lucas or are you just in love with the idea of Lucas?
Peyton: If I'm being honest, maybe a little bit of both. I think I miss what I thought we would be.

Lucas: (voiceover) Sometimes when you're young you think nothing can hurt you. It's like being invincible. Your whole life is ahead of you and you have big plans. Big plans. To find your perfect match, the one who completes you. But as you get older you realize it's not always that easy. It's not until the end of your life that you realize how the plans you made where simply plans. Because at the end when you're looking back instead of forward you want to believe you made the most of what life gave you. You want to believe you're leaving something good behind. You want it all to have mattered.

Jamie: Thanks Uncle Lucas.
Lucas: How'd you know it was from me?
Jamie: It's a book. (everyone laughs)
Skills: (to Lucas) How boring can you get?

(while trying on shirts)
Lucas: What do you think about this one? You think Lindsey will like it?
Haley: I think it's just like the other four shirts you tried on.

Dan: Son, I have a bad heart.
Nathan: You're just realizing that, Dad?

Haley: I've been giving you a lot of space because, well, because I think I know you pretty well and I think that's what you need, but you know that I'm here for you, right?
Lucas: Yes, Haley, I know that and I thank you, but you're friends with Lindsey too and I don't want to put you in the middle of this, okay? I got to change.
Haley: Nah, no. No. Yes, I'm friends with Lindsey but you are my best friend and I love you. So if you need me, you better put me in the middle, or else.

Brooke: Do you ever want to go back? I remember being sixteen and everything just seemed much easier. Would you do it differently?
Lucas: I'd try to appreciate the things I took for granted, but I think we have to go through all this stuff, you know, to get to the places we want to be.

Brooke: It's okay, Angie, it's okay sweet girl. No, don't cry baby girl, please. Don't you want to sleep?
Peyton: I do Brooke. Okay, you know I love you, right? And I love baby Angie, but I also really, really love my sleep, and I haven't gotten any in like three nights.
Brooke: And it shows.
Peyton: Thanks. As if I didn't know I look like Amy Winehouse during rehab.

Episode Goofs

Jamie was born on the day of graduation, which was well after the end of the basketball season. However, in "Cryin' Won't Help You Now", we learn the Ravens still have 12 games left in the season.

When Lucas helps Brooke get Angie's car seat into the car, the baby in the car seat is a doll.

When Jamie blows out the candle on his birthday cake, the flame on the candle shaped like a "5" is out when the camera zooms in on the cake, but is lit when the camera pans out.

Cultural References

Episode Title: Life is Short

"Life is Short" is a song by Butterfly Boucher.

Fergie: What are we gonna do? There's a new episode of Tila Tequila.

Fergie is referencing the MTV series, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, which is a dating series featuring Tila Tequila, a bisexual model.

Peyton: As if I didn't know I look like Amy Winehouse during rehab.

Skills: Now look, I told Nathan I was gonna get it this week. But that's about as easy to find as Willy Wonka's little golden ticket.

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, five golden tickets were hidden in candy bar wrappers. Those that found a golden ticket were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of touring the chocolate factory.

Skills: I thought your little Mini Me flew the coup.

Mini Me is a character from the Austin Powers series of movies who is the clone of Dr. Evil.
