!!!!!! This review contains spoilers !!!!!!
Since the episodes aired back-to-back and have since blurred together in my mind, this review is for both 5x01 and 5x02:
To be honest, I was a little worried about whole the fast-forward move that the writers made in the first two episodes, but I was pleasantly surprised. Instead of writing "happily ever after" storylines, the events that occured over the 4 year jump actually seem like things that would happen in real life -- Lucas and Peyton drifted apart, Peyton and Brooke lost touch, Nathan's NBA dreams didn't come true, and Haley and Nathan's marriage isn't picture perfect.
The episodes were very well written -- I laughed, I cried. Peyton's phone call was very touching, and basically any scene with Jamie made me smile.
Brooke's storyline was a tad unbelievable. Running her own highly successful fashion business at only age 21 is kind of unlikely, but hey, it's a TV show.
Granted the episodes had weird spots and some way too melodramatic moments, but all in all it was a good start after a long wait for a new episode.
