Episode Notes

Ratings: 2.5/4

The steps where Peyton lies after she's been drugged are actually the steps of the Federal Courthouse in Wilmington, North Carolina, not at Duke University were the party is said to take place.

Episode Quotes

Keith: Well, you know, after dinner the other night, I said some pretty crazy things.
Karen: Nope, I don't remember anything crazy.

(Peyton backs up her car and nearly hits Haley)
Haley: Whoa, walking here!
Peyton: God! I’m – I’m sorry.
Haley: Like you weren’t aiming.
Peyton: You’re not on that list. You need a ride somewhere?
Haley: Um –
Peyton: Come on, get in.
Haley: Guess it’s better to be in your car than under it.

Haley: You’re not going to like this. In fact, you’re going to hate this. But I feel that I should tell you in the interest of full friendship disclosure.
Lucas: Yeah, right. What could be worse that you tutoring Nathan, huh?
(Haley gives him a sheepish look)
Lucas: You … like him.
Haley: Luke, do not freak out on me, okay?! I can’t help it any more than you can.
Lucas: I don’t like him!
Haley: I’m talking about you and Peyton. We don’t decide who we like, it happens.
Lucas: Do you know what you’re getting yourself into?!
Haley: I’m not getting myself into anything. I’m thinking of maybe getting into something that is never going to happen anyway, so …
Lucas: What could you possibly like in the guy, huh?
Haley: Different stuff. We connect. Yes, he can be a total ass sometimes, but I’m telling you, it’s just a defense mechanism. He really opens up with me, Lucas.
Lucas: You know how I feel about him.
Haley: And I’m sorry for that. I am.
Lucas: But I get it, alright? I understand. Just do me a favor, okay, just –
Haley: Be careful? I wish everybody would stop saying that.

Deb: She's young enough to be your daughter. And in this town, she might just be.
Dan: Ouch.
Deb: Sorry, couldn't resist.

Lucas: Could you just excuse me?
Brooke: Well, I was gonna say, my parents usually close this place down every year, so if you wanted, we could go back to my place and start the party early. We have a Jacuzzi.
Lucas: That sounds tempting, Brooke--
Brooke: We have a naked me in a Jacuzzi.
Lucas: What if I told you there was someone else?
Brooke: Well, then normally I'd suggest a threesome.

Brooke: Tutor girl.
Nathan: Brooke --
Haley: It's Haley.
Brooke: Haley, right. Nathan’s own personal little care package. Everything’s starting to make so much more sense now. You two are adorable. What was my favorite part? "Believing you’ll do well is half the battle…" (to Nathan) You know, Tutor Girl’s little love note you passed around earlier -- the one that said, "Call me if you need anything … at all."
Nathan: All right, Haley, I --
Haley: Stay away from me.
Nathan: Games are getting old, Brooke.

Karen: I have to confess something. I have been pretty judgmental about you.
Deb: How could you not be?
Karen: I really didn’t want to like you.
Deb: I’m hoping there’s a "but" in there somewhere.
Karen: There is. I was wrong. I’m glad I’ve had this chance to get to know you.
Deb: Oh, that makes two of us.

Karen: Did you know I was pregnant?
Deb: He conveniently left that out. I didn’t find out about you until we were married and living in Tree Hill.
Karen: Oh, I would’ve killed him.
Deb: Oh, I almost did.
Karen: So when did you, uh-
Deb: We met at Freshman Orientation.
Karen: That was about a month after I told him I was pregnant.
Deb: A few months later, I was pregnant, too.
Karen: You know Dan, always the overachiever.

Peyton: Don’t need this, or this.
Lucas: I’ve wanted this for so long.
Peyton: Me too. And now we can have it.
Lucas: No, no, no. I don’t mean just that. I want this.
(Lucas puts his hand over her heart)
Lucas: You know? I want to be here. I want to have everything with you. I want it all. I want us, Peyton.
(Peyton begins to back away)
Lucas: Hey, what’s wrong?
Peyton: This isn’t supposed to be that.
Lucas: Peyton --
Peyton: Why couldn’t you just leave it alone?

Dan: Interesting. You’ve always made me out to be the bad guy. Maybe you’ll judge me a little different now.
Lucas: Spare me a lecture.
Dan: Just trying to give you the benefit of my experience.
Lucas: In what-fathering a child, or abandoning one?
Dan: Seems to me you’re one mistake away from both.
Lucas: Yeah, well, one’s an accident. The other’s a choice.

Brooke: Jake you can tell me. I won't even remember it in the morning.
Jake: You really wanna know? (whispering in Brooke's ear) The truth would kill your buzz.

Episode Title: Life in a Glass House

"Life in a Glass House" is a song by Radiohead from their Amnesiac album.

Analysis

The episode title, besides the song that the episode is named for, can also reference the popular saying "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones", meaning that we should not say insulting things to other people because they could easily do the same thing to us. The saying takes shape in this episode when Deb and Karen are able to forge a relationship despite their history.
