David J. Show's story "Pick Me Up" is brilliant. Take the famous myth of the crazy truck driver who picks up stray hitchhikers and kills them and combine it with the equally famous myth of the psychotic hitchhiker who murders the victims that pick him up.
Larry Cohen directs this thriller about these two urban legends clashing on a lonely stretch of mountain road. The episode stays true to that of the Masters of Horror themes. All the blood, gore, and sex is found. Not to say this episode isn't unique but it is a horror movie.
I enjoyed "Pick Me Up" from start to finish. It begins with a very distinct opening shot and soon after introduces all the characters. The scenery is rich and really makes you feel like you're isolated with these people. The scenes are well shot and never feel unnecessary.
What I really enjoyed about this episode was the ending. Quite a few of the Masters of Horror endings from previous episodes are bland and lack that shocking twist that "Pick Me Up" has. I didn't want it to end.
"Pick Me Up" is a well deserved 9 out of 10.
