James "Sawyer" Ford, played by Josh Holloway
Sawyer's real name is James Ford. He's a Southern good ol' boy who alternates between warm charm and nasty insults. He has a nickname for everyone, and few of them are flattering. Sawyer knows how to get under your skin, and often intentionally pushes people away to revel in his position as an outcast. Despite all that, he clearly has feelings for Kate.
Sawyer was orphaned at a young age when a con man seduced his mother and swindled money from his father - this led to his father killing his mother and committing suicide. Sawyer has been seeking revenge on the con man who destroyed his life for as long as he can remember - it seems he's even tried to become the man he hates - even taking his name.
Sawyer killed the man he thought was the real "Sawyer", only to discover he'd been conned yet again. He's holding on to a lot of anger, which keeps him isolated from the other islanders. Recently, however, he admitted to Jack--his archrival for Kate's affections--that he counts the doc as a friend...much to Jack's surprise. |
