Ben/"Henry Gale", played by Michael Emerson
When Danielle Rousseau delivered the man she'd caught in one of her traps to Sayid and the survivors, she warned them about trusting him. The man, who gave his name as "Henry Gale," wove a tale about a thwarted trip around the world in a hot-air balloon in order to curry favor with the survivors. While some believed him, others, like Jack and especially Sayid, did not.
As luck would have it, the truth did eventually out---"Henry Gale" is one of the Others, and from all appearances he is among the higher eschelons of Other leadership. One of his more interesting attributes is his ability to bend certain people's minds and wills to his own devices simply through the power of suggestion, a trick he used often to widen the rift between Jack and Locke.
Through the help of his followers, he managed to make his escape from his captors and, in a reversal of fortune, is now holding Jack, Kate, and Sawyer captive after they were betrayed by Michael. |
