Suspicious fires ravage the West River district. It could be the work of arsonists, or it could be competition for the Metro Gang that currently controls the area. It seems a new gang, the Toasters, wants to move in, and they have a lot of high-tech, high-temperature fire power to back their play. As Lois digs deeper, she discovers a rotten nest of connections, part of a power play within the Metro gang, or maybe something more – something related to Lex Luthor’s ambitious plans to redevelop West River. For his part, Superman has his hands full saving the lives of people threatened by the blazes. | | There are no foreign summaries for this episode: Contribute |

Episode Quotes |

Reporter: We’re hearing rumors that the arsons might be gang-related. Any comment?
Superman: I’m sure the authorities are doing everything they can to find out. | Lex Luthor: The West River is currently a blight on our fair city. Lex Harbor will change all that.
Clark Kent: How do you respond to accusations that coercion was used to pressure the city council to approve this project without appropriate study?
Lex Luthor: Well, I don’t respond to accusations Mr. Kent. I’m more concerned with results. I believe that with Lex Harbor we can take Metropolis back from the criminal elements and the gang influence that apparently, even Superman can’t control. | Lois: (confronting Clark) You... rotten, backstabbing, piece of slime!! You know, some people might be fooled by that innocent exterior, but not me! Not anymore!
Clark: Tea, Lois? It’s a calming, herbal blend. | (Superman has used super breath to freeze The Toasters.)
Toaster: (through clenched teeth) Hey! You can’t leave us like this!
Superman: The police are on their way. I’m sure they’ll have a nice, toasty cell for you. | Lex Luthor: How the mighty have fallen.
Toni Taylor: Save the speeches. Just untie me.
Lex Luthor: No, I don’t think that would do either of us much good.
Toni Taylor: We had a deal!
Lex Luthor: No, we had a plan. Although it seems it turned out a little bit better for me than it did for you. I was able to pick up all the real estate I need for Lex Harbor at... shall we say... fire sale prices, thanks to The Toasters, whereas you, my dear, who had it all in the palm of your hand: the Metros, West River, a future as a legitimate entrepreneur... and you got careless. You let a reporter come between you, and an empire.
Toni Taylor: I’ll tell everyone you’re behind the toasters!
Lex Luthor: No, I don’t think you’ll do that. You’re intelligent. You know that my power extends well beyond the normal reach – even to Metropolis’ Womens Prison. No, Toni, you’ll take the blame, you’ll do your time, I’ll keep my eye on things here in West River, and when they let you out, maybe I’ll let you back into the game.
Toni Taylor: You’re a dangerous man, Lex. I never realized how dangerous until now.
Lex Luthor: Thank you, my dear. Thank you very much. And... welcome to big business. |
