65 :03x22 - Competence (May/10/2002)
When Rebecca Tolliver (guest star Lois Smith, "All My Children") reports that her daughter Katie (guest star Andrea Fay Friedman, "Life Goes On"), a 22-year-old woman with Down Syndrome, has been raped and as a result is now pregnant, Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) face the delicate task of determining if Katie was indeed sexually assaulted--or if her over-protective mother is in denial that her daughter has chosen to consummate her relationship with her boyfriend (guest star Badge Dale). In the course of the investigation, the detectives make the disturbing discovery that in fact more than one man had the opportunity to abuse Katie, and that her naivete about sex may have put her at a heightened risk for such an attack. The case is further complicated when Katie and her mother disagree as to her ability to keep her child, forcing A.D.A. Cabot (Stephanie March) to take sides and take on her superior (guest star Judith Light). Richard Belzer, Dann Florek, Ice-T, and also star.
