  Season 16 (The Sixteenth Year)  
For the 16th Season, Law & Order hit the pavement running with Detectives Joe Fontana (Dennis Farina) and Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) work tough cases under the watchful eye of their commander, Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson). Once the detectives find the suspect, they are prosecuted by E.A.D.A. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and A.D.A. Alexandra Borgia (Annie Parisse). Watching over them is District Attorney Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson).

Cases this season include the murder of A.D.A. Borgia, the decision to keep a vegetative woman alive, the case against Detective Nick Falco and a presumed murder among others.

This is the final season for Detective Joe Fontana and A.D.A. Alexandra Borgia.

Notable guest stars include Carolyn McCormick, former stars Michael Imperioli & Richard Brooks, and Milena Govich who would star in the following season.
