Season 17 (The Seventeenth Year) |
| | "The Seventeenth Year" saw two new faces added to the main cast as well as a new night, a move from Wednesday at 10:00 PM to Friday at 10:00 PM. Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) takes over as the Senior Partner as Detective Joe Fontana (Dennis Farina) has entered retirement over the summer hiatus. Welcome new Detective Nina "Beauty Queen" Cassidy (Milena Govich). Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) has been hesitant of Detective Cassidy since she is a rookie, who also becomes the first lead female detective on "Law & Order". E.A.D.A. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) also welcomes a new A.D.A., after A.D.A. Alexandra Borgia's (Annie Parisse) murder in last season's finale. The new A.D.A. is Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) who works with E.A.D.A. McCoy under D.A. Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson).
This proved to be the first and last season of Detective Cassidy and the final season for D.A. Arthur Branch.
Highlights include the murder of a police officer after a failed burglarly attempt, the arrest of a former child star who was investigated of murdering someone while drunk, and the investigation of a sleazy video producer who catches a shot of a dead man on camera.
Notable guest stars include Chevy Chase, Jeremy Sisto, Harry Hamlin, Jeffrey Tambor, Anson Mount, Carolyn McCormick, and former "Law & Order" star Richard Brooks. | |
