Episode Notes

Series Premiere.

Season 1 Premiere.

This episode was not the original pilot episode; rather, it was the series' sixth episode, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", that was originally shot as the series pilot back in 1988.

Both Bruce McCarty and Daniel Benzali will later star together in the CBS drama, "The Agency".

We discover that Greevey and Cragen were partners before Cragen's promotion; Cragen is a recovering alcoholic; and Stone's father had a drinking problem.

Detective Mike Logan: We can tell a felony from a traffic ticket.
Dr. Edward Auster: Look, a patient walks in with a headache. She could have a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a berry aneurysm, a retro-orbital tumor...or does she just have a headache? Do you give her an aspirin? Or do you saw open her skull?
Sgt. Max Greevey: You make this speech at funerals?

Sgt. Max Greevey: Look! Someone's lying! Whether it's Gunja Din or Doctor God, we don't know.

Dr. Edward Auster: When you practice medicine, Mr. Stone, sometimes the patient dies.
