Sophie, a 16 year old Olympic hopeful, visits Paul for the first time so that he can give his "professional opinion" on her sanity for a lawsuit involving a car crash that injured her while she was on her bicycle. Though she does not remember the accident, Sophie is sure that she did not purposely ride her bike into the car due to suicidal tendencies, as the insurance company claims.

Paul: (quoting Sophie) "This is your life." What do you mean?
Sophie: You know, like the TV show.
Paul: (chuckling) You're way too young to know about that show.
Sophie: It's on DVD. My mom's friend watches it all the time.
This Is Your Life is a show that surprised someone with a recounting of their own life, accompanied by appearances from old friends and family. In the United States, there were two revivals in 1971 and 1983, but the original 1952 version is likely what Sophie is referring to, since that is the only version with a DVD release. |
