Subject: • "Heroes" reboot for season 4
Sci-fi TV show Heroes is returning to its roots in a bid to turn round falling audience figures in the US.

Creator Tim Kring said series four will start "pretty much from scratch", after fans criticised a lack of direction in the second and third series.

US television network NBC says it is committed to Heroes, which starts its fourth season in the US on 2 February.

But primetime president Angela Bromstad admitted it may have taken on too much "in terms of characters and stories".

The first series of Heroes, about a group of individuals who have extraordinary abilities, such as regeneration, the power to fly and telepathy, launched in 2006.

It won a Golden Globe and a People's Choice Award for favourite new TV drama. It was also nominated for eight Emmys, although it failed to win any.

Series criticisms

But series two of the show split fans, with many complaining about a lack of pace and poor storylines. In the US, viewing figures dipped from a peak of nearly 14 million to just over 11 million.

Series three slumped even further, with audiences of 8.5 million - leading media magazine Entertainment Weekly to run a story headlined: "Heroes: Five Ways To Fix It".

In the UK, Heroes is shown on BBC Two, where it has also seen a dip in viewing figures. The opening show of series three drew 4.3 million people, while the final episode which was watched by just 2.24 million.

Kring told US magazine TV Guide about the fourth series: "There is almost nothing that the audience needs to know from the previous volume in order to follow the storyline."

Um... didn't he already say this for Volume 3? You know... the whole Vol/Season 2 being boring and disappointing and that Vol3 would rejuvenate the series?

Seriously... Sylar is over-played. First he was the bad guy. Then he was the powerless yet still evil guy. In vol3 he was the misunderstood-trying-to-repent-but failed villain who was killed AGAIN (and so cheaply too I must say... by a cheerleader...). So is he really dead? I wish it were so... we'll be seeing Sylar'rs real father in vol4.

And come on Peter. You have the BEST ability ever. You can take anybody's power without harming them (or even see the powers used). It's been 3 freaking seasons. Shouldn't you be more adept at fighting now? Why aren't you be like omnipotent already?

Last but not least.. Hiro. Oh Hiro. You're no longer funny. Move along.

Here's how I think Heroes can be fixed. Why not change the settings? Most of the heroes/villains are all from America (yes, Mexico is America too). Let's go...somewhere else. If 24 can do it, so can Heroes. The company is DEAD. Vol4 is called fugitives so the Heroes should be in flight. Let's have them actually be SMART and not hide in the U.S of A.

Just my 2c.

Prediction: Heroes will not return in the fall. Yeah, I know, it doesn't take Nostradamus to conclude that...

Bad prediction IMO ... Heroes may not be drawing the numbers it did when it first started, but the show still draws larger crowds than the average 1-hour drama, and when you also figure in that it's sci-fi, it really packs a punch.

Heroes will be on for at least season 4/volume 4 ... but after that ... who knows. The problem with shows like Heroes isn't that the show goes in a million directions at once (Lost does that and still draws huge numbers), but that the cast is so large and still growing that the non-regular watcher has no idea who anyone is ...
