Matt is on a bus heading to Washington.
Near Building 26, Hiro suffers from a nosebleed after trying to use his power.
Noah is driving a SUV with Claire while Angela sleeps in the back. As they approach Arlington, Angela wakes up from a dream and tells them that Nathan is in trouble. Noah, having spotted a fake road crew a little while back, realizes that the government is on to them and will have a roadblock ahead. He pulls over and tells Angela and Claire to go on to Washington on foot while he busy them some time. Once they're gone, he continues to the roadblock where the government hunters arrest him.
After shooting Nathan with two tranquilizer darts, Danko stabs Sylar in the back of the head with a knife, presumably hitting the one spot necessary to kill someone with regeneration. However, Sylar gets up and complains about the pain, then takes out the knife and explains that thanks to his shapeshifting ability, his vital spot is no longer in the same place. Danko goes for his gun and Sylar telekinetically immobilizes him. He informs Danko he has plans and then hides Nathan's unconscious form until later when he can absorb all his memories. Sylar boasts that he plans to shake the President's hand, obtain his DNA, and then become the most powerful man in the world. He then takes on Danko's shape, goes outside, and shoots at the arriving government hunters. Sylar then takes on the form of Taub, holds a gun to Danko, and places him under arrest.
Angela and Claire get to the capital building. Angela tells Claire that she has to find Matt Parkman, per the dream she had where Matt saves Nathan's life. She tells Claire to go to Nathan's office. Meanwhile, Sylar puts on Nathan's clothing and then uses his borrowed clairsentience to learn bits and pieces of Nathan's life from his belongings. He isn't yet able to access Nathan's memories because he's still unconscious from the darts. Claire arrives and Sylar takes on her father's form. She wonders if he's really Nathan but, touching her necklace, tells her about their recent activities in Mexico. He explains that Sylar escaped and he needs to go warn the President, who is giving a speech at the Stanton Hotel. Claire insists on going and Sylar agrees.
As Danko's hunters take their former boss to Building 26, Hiro and Ando watch from hiding. Ando says that he can use his powers to get them inside, but Hiro warns it won't be enough. When he prepares to freeze time, Ando warns him that it's dangerous but Hiro insists. Meanwhile, the hunters take Danko to a cell and lock him in with Noah.
Peter arrives at Nathan's office and discovers his brother recovering consciousness. Nathan explains what happened and tries to go after Sylar, but is still weak from the drug.
Danko explains what happened and admits he screwed up. He wonders how Noah managed to hold his own against specials over so many years and Noah says that he had Claire as an anchor. They have no choice but to work together. Time freezes and Hiro and Ando open their cell door, looking for the drugged prisoners. Moving on, they enter the control room. Ando takes his and Hiro's pictures from the board, then notices that Hiro is bleeding from his ear. They find the chamber with the drugged prisoners and release them, starting with Mohinder. Hiro then replaces the former captives with the frozen hunters, inserting the drug tubes to keep them unconscious.
Hiro restores time to normal, and Danko and Noah discover their cell door is open. Noah figures that Hiro is the one responsible. Mohinder checks Hiro and warns him that his powers are weakening power, and another use could kill him.
"Nathan" and Claire go to the security checkpoint at the Stanton where the President is speaking. They meet with Liam Samuels, the President's Chief of Staff. He tells them they can wait upstairs until the President is done in 90 minutes. As they sign in, Claire notices that "Nathan" is signing left-handed but he claims he's ambidextrous.
Noah and Danko go to the control room and confirm the hunters are all unconscious in the prisoners' chamber. Danko gets out a tranquilizer gun with enough dosage to knock out Sylar. However, when Noah's back is turned, Danko prepares to inject him. Hiro arrives just in time to freeze time, take the syringe, and inject Danko with it. Hiro unfreezes time and bows to Noah, then collapses.
Noah heads for the Stanton Hotel and calls Claire en route. He ends up talking to Sylar, who has taken on Claire's form while telekinetically immobilizing her. Sylar taunts Noah and hangs up. He then telekinetically controls Claire, forcing her to pour wine for the two of them. Sylar sits her down and talks about how they're both disappointed by their birth fathers, and how they both will live forever. He suggests that they should stay together as allies... and more.
Peter and Nathan get to the security checkpoint at the Stanton and meet with Samuels. Nathan confirms he's the real Nathan and warns that Sylar is dangerous. He insists that only he and Peter can deal with Sylar, and publicly and voluntarily demonstrates his ability to fly for the first time. Nathan admits that he's been lying to the President as well as himself, and he'll accept the consequences of that once they deal with Sylar. As the brothers head upstairs, they figure they need to get Peter close enough to touch Sylar. As they approach the hotel room door, Sylar telekinetically throws Claire through it. The brothers fly in and Claire watches from the door as Sylar throws lightning at them. Finally Nathan and Sylar smashes through the window. Claire runs in to get Peter, who admits he doesn't have his flight power any more. They run downstairs to find Sylar and Nathan. Once they're gone, Sylar smashes Nathan back through the window into the room, then telekinetically slits Nathan's throat. He takes on Nathan's form again and leaves.
Angela meets Matt at the bus station. He says he has to take down Building 26 to guarantee his family's safety, but Angela explains that he needs to save Nathan, who will dismantle the operation and put an end to the prosecution. Matt reluctantly goes with her.
In the Stanton's lobby, Peter and Claire run into Noah. After he confirms they're both themselves, Peter explains that he managed to touch Sylar and take his power. The Secret Service arrive and hold them at gunpoint, but Claire convinces them to listen.
Using his telepathy, Matt gets himself and Angela past the security detail and up to the hotel room. Angela sobs in grief as she finds her son's corpse. She wonders how her vision of Matt saving Nathan can come true.
The Secret Service agents escort the President through the Stanton's kitchen. "Nathan" arrives and starts to approach. Samuels comes up to him and "Nathan" touches him and says he's out of time. Sylar takes on Samuels' form and gets into the limo with the President. He shakes the President's hand, but then starts to shapeshift uncontrollably. Peter reveals that he got to the President first and shapeshifted into his form, using the power he obtained from Sylar. He then injects Sylar with the tranquilizer, knocking him out.
They take Sylar up to the hotel room and Angela and Noah ask Matt to help them. They can't risk the knowledge of a Senator's death at the hands of a special becoming public. They ask Matt to telepathically force Sylar to absorb all of Nathan's memories and take on his form. Noah will then use the original shapeshifter's body, still frozen in Sylar's form, to fake Sylar's death. Matt reluctantly agrees and telepathically alters Sylar's mind so that he believes he's Nathan. Sylar takes on Nathan's form and looks up at "his" mother.
Later, everyone meets to watch as Noah cremates "Sylar's" body. Nathan/Sylar tells Angela that he's spoken with the President, who has agreed to fund a new operation. Noah suggests they call it "The Company." A recovered Hiro tells Ando it's time to go home, and the others leave as well.
End of Volume 4
Volume 5: Redemption. Five Weeks Later
Former Building 26 hunter Kent Harper returns home and discovers that his kitchen is filled with water. Tracy Strauss forms out of the water and tells him that he's number four.
Nathan/Sylar is in his office reading about the fourth mysterious drowning death of a former government employee. Angela comes in and wonders why he's been so distracted recently. Nathan/Sylar notes he hasn't been feeling like himself recently. Angela tells him that it's his time now and he has everything he's ever wanted. As they go to lunch, Nathan/Sylar pauses, then senses that an antique clock that is running fast. He adjusts it and leaves with a concerned Angela.
