Nathan, Noah, Peter, and Claire continue to dig up buried skeletons at Coyote Sands. When Peter wonders what the point is, Nathan insists that their mother has a reason. Peter talks off and Claire goes after him, telling him that he has to give his brother a chance. Peter decides to talk to Angela, reminding her that she said she was searching for the sister that he never knew Angela had.
In 1961, families are brought to the Coyote Sands Relocation Center and are greeted by Dr. Chandra Suresh. Among those arriving are the Shaws, and the two daughters Angela and Alice. Chandra attempts to convince everyone that the relocation center has all the modern appliances and everything they could want. The children are separated from their families in separate bunkhouses. As Alice and Angela are taken to their new home, they comment about the armed soldiers and Chandra explains the men are there to protect the center against the outside world.
That night, three boys come through the rain to visit the girls: Charles Deveaux, Daniel Lindeman, and Bobby Bishop. The boys introduce themselves and it’s clear Charles finds Angela attractive. After they leave, Alice says she wants to go home but Angela explains that they’re there so she can get treatment to stop the nightmares that she has. She assures a worried Alice that she’ll always be there for her no matter what. Alice is reassured, and the rain stops. Angela says it’s a good sign.
In the present, Angela explains that her sister and parents died there and that if they don’t change, the same thing will happen to her current family. As they talk, someone watches them from a nearby building. Angela goes on to explain that the government locked them up while lying that they had a cure. Now she’s having dreams of Alice, at the relocation center ruins in the present, but isn’t sure what her dream means. She thinks that she’s supposed to lay her sister to rest. Angela insists that she didn’t tell her sons about the relocation center so that she could protect them. The Company started there, and they used their abilities and their money to ensure their secrecy, killing anyone who they couldn’t convince otherwise. Claire arrives as Angela says that now she and Noah were working together to fix the current situation, but they have no choice but to go back to the Company methods. Both Claire and Peter object and an angry Peter flies off. Nathan sees his brother depart and goes after him.
In the past, Angela goes outside in the middle of the night. Charles, Daniel, and Bobby are outside. Daniel notices a scar on her leg and demonstrates his power to heal. Charles warns that despite Chandra's claims, they're prisoners at the relocation center. Angela doubts herself, and Charles tells her to believe in herself, and in her powers. She comes to a decision and tells them she's ad dreams that Chandra is dangerous. When Alice comes out to see what's going on, Angela quickly gets her inside. Alice complains about her cold feet and Angela promises to get her some socks. Alice then talks about how the time her parents punished her, and a hailstorm smashed the family car. She demonstrates her own power to her sister, summoning a snowstorm outside. Worried now that she has something to hide, Alice wonders if Chandra will come for her.
In the present, Angela admits that she admires Claire for being so strong and doing so much, when Angela did so little at her age. She admits that she's done terrible things. Suddenly a sandstorm comes up and smashes through the building. Angela believes that Alice is somehow alive and responsible. She tries to run outside and Claire holds her back.
Peter has gone to the Coyote Sands Café and Nathan finds him. Nathan says they need to work together and get past their problems. Peter says that Nathan has always looked out for himself, even when he made it look like he was doing someone a favor. However, he admits he's trying to find a way to forgive Nathan. The broadcast on the café's TV is interrupted by a warning of a severe storm warning.
Noah has been caught outside in the sandstorm when Mohinder attacks him. Mohinder drags him into a building and demands to know why he's there. Noah explains that he and Angela were working together and he was trying to infiltrate Danko's operation, but he was found out and forced to go on the run. Mohinder shows Noah Chandra's files from the New York apartment, and says that he came to Coyote Sands to find out what his father as doing there.
In the past, Chandra interviews Angela in his office. Angela is able to tell what patterns are on the cards because she's scene their encounter in a dream. She then tells him that she's had a dream where he kills everyone in the relocation center. Chandra insists he would never do that but Angela warns that he'll lose control and have no choice. He believes that she's misinterpreting her dream and starts to give her an injection.
In the present, Angela insists that Alice is alive and angry, and causing the storm. She runs out into the storm. Claire follows after her but the storm dissipates, and Angela is gone. The group splits up to search for her. Mohinder comes across his father's office and admits that he's following in his father's footsteps by using specials as guinea pigs. Peter tells him he's a good person, but Mohinder warns that anyone can be corrupted. The first Company was corrupt because of what happened to them at Coyote Sands. He tells Peter to form a new and better Company, one free of the hate and fear of the first Company's founders.
As Noah, Nathan, and Claire search together, Noah tells them that Sylar has acquired shapeshifting powers. Claire finds a discarded book, Alice's Alice in Wonderland, and says she can't remember the last time that her family read a book or had a movie night. She admits she misses those times and has been trying to impress both of her fathers.
In the past, Charles and Angela form a plan to escape. He tells Angela to lie to Alice so she won't try to go with them and interfere. Angela tells Alice that she needs to stay there no matter what and cover for them. Alice gets nervous and a storm starts up outside. Angela tells her that she saw the future in a dream and knows that Alice will be safe as long as she stays there.
In the present, Angela wakes up in a bunker. Someone has stocked it with food and furniture, and books. Alice comes in from outside, but ignores Angela and puts on a record.
In the past, Angela and the boys go to Coyote Sands Cage. She tries to call the police but they don't believe her. The boys are satisfied simply to have escaped and don't want to return or help. Charles invites her to dance and she accepts. The cook tells them they don't allow colored to dance with whites, and Charles uses his telepathic powers to blank everyone else's minds. Angela thinks of Alice, left behind, and they hear on the radio that a severe storm warning is in effect.
In the present, Angela tries to get through to Alice. Alice explains that she stayed there just like Angela says, stealing whatever she needed but always returning. Angela asks what happened after she and the boys left.
In the past, Chandra brings Alice to his office and prepares to give her an injection. Alice creates another storm and hits one agent with a lightning bolt. She runs outside and Chandra goes after her. He loses his temper momentarily and slaps her. Her father sees what happens and hits him with a blast of kinetic energy. A soldier shoots and kills Mr. Shaw. Alice hides beneath Building 26, Chandra's office, while soldiers open fire.
In the present, Angela says that it's time for Alice to come home, and she has socks. However, when she admits that she lied to Alice and left with the boys, Alice gets angry and creates another storm. Mohinder and Peter arrive and Mohinder tries to calm Alice down. Alice, remembering when Chandra did the same thing, hits him with lighting. Peter tries to hold back Angela, but his mother insists that it's her fault and she has to deal with it. She tells Alice that they have a family now, and Peter is her nephew. Alice starts to calm down and Angela tells her it's time to go home. Alice turns and runs, disappearing into the storm before Angela can catch her.
Later, the storm has covered up the graves. Peter tells Mohinder they can't find Alice, and gives him a film canister containing the events surrounding Chandra's experiments. Mohinder takes it but says he won't watch it, and that it's best to let the past stay buried. Peter prepares to leave but Mohinder tells him that he hasn't resolved his issues yet and is staying at Coyote Sands. Everyone goes to the Coyote Sands Café, and Angela remembers...
In the past, Angela tells Charles and the others that she's had a dream of the future. It's their destiny to create a company that will let them protect themselves and other specials from the government. She warns them that they must do whatever they have to.
Nathan gives his mother Alice's copy of Alice in Wonderland[, but Angela says they'll never see Alice again. Nathan isn't so sure, and invites her to join him and the others at the table. Peter takes her hand, having reconciled his differences with her. He says they need to be a family, not company, and they need to take their private lives back. Nathan prepares to go back to Washington to rectify the situation. However, a news broadcast comes on and shows Nathan holding a press conference in Washington. Noah realizes that it's Sylar.
