Ted and Matt break into the Bennets' home, Ted melting the doorknob. Matt considers getting the evidence from Mr. Bennet's computer but Ted says he should use his telepathy when they confront him at Primatech. The Bennets arrive and Matt is reluctant to involve the entire family, but Ted convinces him they need to act now. As Lyle goes upstairs with his mother, Ted and Matt confront the family. Bennet asks why they're there and says he doesn't know Ted. Ted begins to get upset, warning that they don't want to see him upset, and Matt tries to appeal to Bennet to tell the truth so they can calm Ted down.

Fifteen Years Ago
Thompson talks to Bennet about his new cover job as the regional manner at Primatech Paper. He then explains that no one outside of the organization know who they really are or what they do. Further, there are some questionably moral things that Bennet will have to do. Mr. Bennet is okay with all of this and Thompson introduces him to his new partner: Claude, who appears suddenly reverting to visibility.

The Present
Matt explains that Bennet has been abducting people with special abilities and then wiping their memories. Mrs. Bennet questions this and Matt "hears" Claire thinking about the Haitian. Matt reveals what she's thinking, revealing that Claire still has her memories. Claire admits she doesn't know why the Haitian spared her. Ted starts to get angrier and hotter, and Matt tries to calm him down.
Matt draws Claire off to talk in private and reads her mind to learn that she is going to try to escape, believing she can't be hurt. Matt warns her not to do anything foolish while he tries to keep Ted calm. Claire realizes that he's reading her mind and tries to find out more about what her father has been up to. Matt hears her thinking about Peter, and reveals that he's met Peter as well and Peter can read minds. When he asks her about Sylar's attack and how she survived unharmed, he picks up her thinking about her regenerative ability and Peter's duplication of it and realizes she has powers as well.
Fourteen Years Ago
Mr. Bennet and Claude meet on the roof of the Deveaux Building. One of their targets, a pyrokinetic, disappeared in a fire and left her baby daughter Claire behind. Thompson is there with Kaito Nakamura, who has brought his young son Hiro along. Kaito gives Claire to Bennet and says he'll be adopting her since the couple is having troubles conceiving. Kaito warns that Bennet has no choice and shouldn't get attached to the child, as they'll have to reclaim her if she manifests any powers.

The Present
Claire asks her father if he was responsible for her powers as part of some experiment. Ted reveals that he's just trying to get a cure, but Matt picks up the fact that he'll kill the family if there is no cure. Ted snaps at Matt to read Bennet's thoughts, but Mr. Bennet thwarts him by thinking in Japanese. When Ted demands answers, Matt picks up a stray thought that there's a safe in the bookcase. When Ted goes to check it out, Mr. Bennet goes for concealed gun and Matt stop him. Ted comes back in and starts kicking Mr. Bennet, while Sandra protests.
Matt finally pulls Ted off of Mr. Bennet, but Ted threatens to kill Sandra. Mr. Bennet "thinks" to Matt that he needs to shoot Claire to distract Ted. Claire thinks the same thing to Matt, who reluctantly agrees and shoots Claire down. Mr. Bennett thought-warns Matt he's going to punch him, and then they need to get Claire out before she heals. Convinced that the Bennets are cowed with the death of their daughter, Ted goes along when Matt suggests they move the dead body out of the room.

Matt and Mr. Bennet take Claire to her room where she regenerates. Mr. Bennet admits he didn't give Claire her powers but tells Matt to stop confusing her by suggesting he did. With time running out before Ted gets angry again, Mr. Bennet explains that her superiors don't know about her powers and will take her away if they find out. He comes up with a plan and starts explaining it to them.
Downstairs, Lyle tries to attack Ted with a baseball bat. Ted stops him and ties him up along with his mother. Mr. Bennet and Matt come back downstairs and Matt says he's read Mr. Bennet's mind and the proof they need is at Primatech. Matt suggests he watch the hostages while Ted goes with Mr. Bennet. Ted refuses and gives them an hour to get the proof and get back.
Fourteen Years Ago
Mr. Bennet tells Thompson that his wife found his gun and sedation kit. She thinks he's some kind of serial killer and Thompson wonders what Bennet would do if he was ordered to deal with her. Mr. Bennet says he'll do whatever he was told. However, Thompson says they have an easier solution: they have a mute Haitian who can wipe people's memories.

The Present
Matt and Mr. Bennet go to Primatech where Mr. Bennet says they need to inject Ted with a tranquilizer, as he won't be satisfied no matter what they do. Matt wonders what will happen to him if he helps Mr. Bennet, and the latter says that he's contacted the Haitian and right now Matt is the only one he can trust.
At the Bennets' house, Ted displays his powers to Sandra and Lyle, while Claire secretly watches him.

The Haitian arrives at Primatech and Mr. Bennet confronts him, noting that he knows his ally can talk. The Haitian explains that only two of them know about Claire, but "that will change." He claims that someone whose instructions supersede Bennet's told him not to wipe Claire's memories.
Seven Years Ago
Mr. Bennet and Claude are driving down a highway to investigate a supposed security breach. When Claude demands more information, Bennet admits that Claude is the security breach. He's been hiding someone with abilities. Claude admits that the work they're doing with specials is starting to bother him, and hoped Bennet would be sympathetic. Bennet insists that he would turn in Claire if she ever manifested abilities, but Claude doesn't believe him. They stop on a bridge and Bennet forces Claude out at gunpoint. He demands to know who Claude is hiding but Claude refuses, saying that he will no longer hunt his own people on behalf of "the company." Bennet shoots him and Claude turns invisible before falling over the rail to his apparent death.

The Present
At Primatech, the Haitian argues that Mr. Bennet can no longer be trusted as a company operative, choosing his daughter instead. As the two argue over how to keep Claire safe, Matt notes that they need to get back to Ted.
At the Bennets' house, Claire uses Mr. Muggles to create a noise upstairs then slips in through the back door when Ted goes to investigate. She gets Lyle free but Ted catches Claire as she tries to run. Sandra refuses to leave and Ted burns Claire's neck with his radiation. The two of them watch, astonished, as Claire regenerates. Ted ties them up and Sandra believes that Claire is miraculous because she rose from the dead. Ted starts to wonder if Matt knew about Claire's abilities and set the whole thing up.

Matt and Mr. Bennet return and Bennet offers him the file with the evidence. He explains that since is giving the information puts him and his family at risk, Ted should let them all go. As Mr. Bennet distracts Ted, the Haitian comes in and gets Claire and Sandra outside where Lyle is waiting after calling the police. Mr. Bennet explains that they didn't give Ted his powers and that there is no cure. Thompson sneaks in and prepares to shoot Ted. Mr. Bennet tries to covertly warn him about the danger of wounding Ted, but Thompson takes the shot and hits Ted in the shoulder.
Ted collapses and his powers go out of control. The house bursts into flame and Matt and Thompson escape outside while the Haitian slips away. Claire realizes that her father is still in the house and goes in after him. Mr. Bennet is trying to sedate Ted but can't get close due to the radiation. Claire takes the tranquilizer while Matt gets Mr. Bennet out. Claire forces her way to Ned, her skin burning as she approaches.
Outside, everyone looks on as the house goes up in flames. Claire strides out… and regenerates the massive damage. Thompson is still there, and Bennet realizes that he plans to make good his threat to take Claire away.

At Primatech, Ted is confined in Sylar's old cell. Thompson says they're going to have to kill the Haitian, believing he betrayed the company and hid Claire. Matt is also there, confined and being examined by Candice Willmer. Thompson admits that Candice has abilities, and that Matt's abilities should be useful as well. He then asks Mr. Bennet about Claire, and Mr. Bennet says he'll be bringing her in shortly.
A little later, Mr. Bennet is driving Claire down the same highway as Claude seven years ago. She asks when she can see her family and he tells her that he just wants to protect her, and doesn’t know when they'll be together.
Three Years Ago
Claire is with her father picking out glasses for him. She wonders if she'll need glasses and he explains that she's adopted, but he and Sandra are her real family even if not her biological one. Claire picks out a pair of familiar-looking horn-rimmed glasses for him. He tries them on and Claire says that he looks like "her dad."
The Present
Mr. Bennet pulls over on the bridge where the Haitian is waiting for them. Mr. Bennet instructs the Haitian where to shoot to make it look convincing without killing him. He asks Claire to turn around and the Haitian shoots him just below the rib cage. Mr. Bennet tells the Haitian to take Claire deep undercover, and then the Haitian wipe his memories of what happened as Claire cries.
