Mr. Bennet / H.R.G. [episode 11+, recurring previously], played by Jack Coleman
The mysterious Mr. Bennet, also called "the man in the horn-rimmed glasses," is on the surface a loving father and family man who works for a paper company, Primatech. However, being protective of his family is about the only thing about Mr. Bennet that is the truth.
Mr. Bennet actually once worked for an organization that captures, studies, and tracks people with special "gifts"---people like his adopted daughter, Claire. Bennet actually gained Claire through his work, under the condition that she be brought in to the company when her abilities manifested. Fifteen years later, he realized that he was too emotionally attached to Claire, seeing her as his daughter and not a a subject, and decided to protect her from the company at all costs--going so far as to remove her name form Chandra Suresh's list, keep anyone from remembering anything about her abilities with the help of the Haitian, and to even send Claire into hiding when the company became aware of Claire's ability after the incident involving Ted Sprague. Once the company realized that Bennet was hiding Claire, his employment with them ceased and he became a fugitive from the organization.
Determined to keep Claire safe, Bennet escapes the company and heads to New York, hoping to terminate a "tracking system" that can find anyone by thinking about them---not realizing that the "system" is a seven-year old girl. He also runs into Peter Petrelli, the man responsible for saving Claire from the murderous Sylar and learning later that he is also Claire's biological uncle; a fact that was never revealed to him by the organization. That night, as Peter realizes that he himself will be the one to explode, Bennet tells him that he will kill him in order to stop him from hurting anyone. When Peter thanks him, he tells him to "call me Noah"...marking the first utterance of Bennet's first name. |
