Nathan Petrelli, played by Adrian Pasdar
Peter's brother, Nathan is a self-centered, self-righteous politician running for Congress. Nathan is extremely controlling of his family, always worrying that they could very well damage his campaign. Taking after his father a lot, Nathan finds his brother Peter's view of the world unrealistic and too dreamy for his own tastes. Nevertheless, he tries to help his brother, whether by bailing him out of a Texas jail or covering for his "mental issues" with the press.
Though a politician, Nathan has his own agendas, and one of them is stopping the Linderman Group, which is responsible for his wife Heidi's paralysis. Nathan also learns the daughter he conceived out of a one-night stand in Texas years ago survived a catastrophic fire. He manages to meet the girl, Claire Bennet, after she comes from Texas looking for his brother Peter. Though he has the campaign to worry about, he seems to genuinely want to get to know Claire better.
Unlike Peter, who is desperately trying to stop the nuclear explosion in New York City, Nathan has been coached by his mother that the incident needs to occur in oder for him to "lead the people" after the catastrophe. Likewise, Linderman guarantees his victory in his congressional race and hints at Nathan one day being the President of the Untied States. he seems willing to let events unfold...until Claire reminds him about loyalty to those he loves. At the last possible minute, just before Peter will explode in the plaza, Nathan turns up and tells Peter he will fly him to a safe distance before he goes off. Peter, realizing that the gesture is suicidal for Nathan, tries to argue, but Nathan tells him that "you saved the cheerleader so we could save the world." He then takes Peter in his arms and flies miles into the stratosphere, where Peter explodes. |
