Everything you’ll ever want in an anime . . .
Hellsing is the name of an organization that exists to serve and protect the innocent from creatures of the night. What are these creatures; pretty much anything Undead. This ranges from powerful Vampires to their army of Ghouls to the simple henchmen working for them. They technically don’t exist because the people of the public don’t know about them. This is for their protection and safety.

The Hellsing Organization is made up of many people. From Grunts to Officers to a very mysterious Vampire named Alucard, Hellsing is a small, but powerful army. They have weapon designers that create some very high-tech gadgets, too. The Leader of this group is Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing. She is the daughter to the original Leader of Hellsing. She does all the commanding and decision making in the organization.

The show focuses some of Integra, but it’s really about Seras Victora. She was a young “police girl” that made the decision to become a Vampire under Alucard. She was able to do so because she is a virgin, unlike the people who become Ghouls. The story of Hellsing mainly focuses on Seras’ tale. It documents her struggles as a new Vampire and the difficulty she has conforming to its standards. Such as drinking blood, avoiding daylight and using her amazing abilities to her advantage. The second half of the series she is able to utilizes her powers as a Vampire, like the great strength she posses.

Another interesting character and perhaps the fan favorite is Alucard. He is easily the most powerful member of the Hellsing Organization. Alucard is a “No Life King” which means he is one of the first Vampires. Noted to be over 550 years old, Alucard serves Sir Integra. The reason behind his loyalty is shown later on in the season. There bond is great and very powerful.

All these characters, and many others introduced throughout the series go through some development. Some are not as large as others, for example: Alucard doesn’t really change much because his character is very old, while younger characters like Seras change greatly. I’m sure that any person who watches this show will have a favorite and be pleased at the progress they make in the series. Each character introduced is very diverse and unique. This is one of the strong points in Hellsing.

The animation of Hellsing is a mix of hand-drawn and computer effects through CG. It gives the show a look that is very unique and different from a standard anime. I noticed a few times where the animation dropped in quality. This is a common occurrence in a lot of anime shows though. The sound is excellent and all very fitting, as well as the music. The show has a few Soundtracks on CD, straight from the show.

How’s the action you may ask? Fantastic! Hellsing has some truly epic and amazing fight scenes. The animation is very fluid and dynamic. After watching the entire series I’m sure that you’ll have a favorite fight. Some are done on a smaller scale, as a small, one room fight. Others may take place outside and cover a lot of ground. All the fights are different and will please any anime fans cravings.

All and all, Hellsing is certainly one of my favorite anime shows. I have a hard time deciding if I like it more then Bleach, another beautifully animated show with excellent character development and breath-taking fight scenes.
