The title for this episode, “We Love You Conrad” is taken from a song of the same name featured in the Broadway musical & 1963 film “Bye Bye Birdie” | TV Announcer: “We now return to The Hills”
“The Hills” (2006-Present) is a scripted MTV “reality” show. | General Mills' KIX Cereal is featured in this episode. | Derrick: “You know I can probably help you with that elbow”
This may be a reference to the 1984 action movie “The Karate Kid” starring Ralph Macchio (1961-) & Pat Morita (1932-2005)
| Brian: “Hey Blondie you wanna get together with my Dogwood?”
Lauren: “What?”
Brian: “Dogwood, you know, like Dogwood and Blondie like in the funnies.”
Lauren: “You mean Dagwood.”
Brian: “Dagwood that's what it is.
Hey what about this one, you wanna take a Wizard on my Id?”
In trying to flirt w/ Lauren COnrad, Brian mentions the 2 comic strips “Blondie” and “The Wizard of ID”
“Blondie” is an American comic strip created September 8, 1930 by Murat Bernard "Chic" Young.
The success of the comic strip led to a long-run Blondie film series (1938-1950) and a popular Blondie radio program (1939-1950). It remains a popular comic even today having celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2005.
“The Wizard of Id” is a daily newspaper comic strip created in 1964 by American cartoonists Brant Parker and Johnny Hart and also remains popular still today. | Lauren: “That's Heidi and Spencer. I don't really talk to them.”
Stewie: “Wow, Spencer really does look like a monkey.”
Lauren's fellow actors from “The Hills” Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt make an appearance in this episode.
Spencer however, is portrayed as the character “Dr. Zaius” from the classic 1968 sci-fi movie “Planet of the Apes” | Stewie: “Oh there's Brody Jenner, god what a douche bag. I can't believe that came out of Bruce Jenner's vagina”
1976 Summer Olympics Decathlon Gold medal winner Bruce Jenner, is mentioned in this episode being confused as a woman by Stewie.
Bruce Jenner is the star of his own reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (2007-Present) & is the father of Brody Jenner who starred on “The Hills” and had his own reality man-dating show, “Bromance” (2008-2009) | Lauren: “It's okay, they fill the rest with shots of street signs, fronts of restaurants and old footage from the A-Team”
The characters “Hannibal” Smith (played by George Peppard (1928-1994)) & “Face” (played by Dirk Benedict (1945-)) appear in archive footage from the 80s action show “The A-Team” (1983-1987) | The paparazzi website (and TV show) “TMZ” is featured in this episode exposing Brian and Lauren's relationship | Peter: “Tell her I like her work in Jake & the Fatman. Oh wait that was William Conrad. Tell her I like Jake & the Fatman”
American actor William Conrad (1920-1994) & his cop show “Jake & the Fatman” (1987-1992) are mentioned in this episode. | Lauren: “Come on, I'll show you what I did yesterday. It'll make you feel... young, as when the world was new.”
Brian: “You did all this in a day?”
Lauren: “The matrix formed in a day, the lifeforms grew later at a substantially accelerated rate.”
“Can I cook, or can't I?”
This scene is a direct parody of the 1982 movie, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”.
Lauren's lines are direct quotes from the character “Dr. Carol Marcus” and Brian quotes “Captain James Kirk”.
The music from the movie is even used in the episode. | Lauren: “You know America doesn't like smart people, they elected Bush twice”
Brian: “Yeah once”
Allusion to the 2004 election when Al Gore won the popular vote but George Bush still won a second term. | American comedian and actor Bill Cosby (1937-) is featured in this episode in a computer generated sex tape with Lauren. | Peter: “Not like Sting where you can only understand the last 3”
English musician Sting (1951-) is featured in this episode performing 2 of his songs, 1999's “Brand New Day” & 1993's “Fields of Gold” | Meg: “So Lauren do you & Paris Hilton & Lindsay Lohan all hang out and go drunk driving together?”
Brian: “I heard that Lindsay Lohan wasn't driving that night, she was taking the rap for a friend.”
Meg mentions the other famous-for-no-reason-what-so-ever-other-then-having-a-sex-tape Paris Hilton (1981-) and “actress” Lindsay Lohan (1986-).
Stewie mentions the May 2007 incident when Lindsay was arrested for driving under the influence and investigators found something they believed to be cocaine.
However, the friend in question is the cartoon character “Mr. Magoo” created at the UPA animation studio in 1949. | Lauren: “I can see the little Austin Powers on the side”
Brian wears promo glasses for the Mike Myers (1963-) spy spoof movie series “Austin Powers” |
