Episode Notes

This episode drew 7,335,000 viewers & was FOX's #8 show for the week

This episode was originally titled “Anchorwoman: The Legend of Lois Griffin” which was a take off of the title of the 2004 comedy “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” starring Will Ferrell

Cultural References

The title of this episode as well the plot revolves around the cable channel “FOX NEWS”.

Chris: “WOW, look at that HD picture”
Lois: “Yeah it's so clear you can even see Ellen DeGeneres' breath”

The family watches Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, “Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (2003-) where she interviews Seth Rogan

Meg: “Mom, do you ever feel... not so fresh down there?”
Lois: “No. There must be something wrong with you.”
Meg: “Really?”
Lois: “Yeah, I've never had that problem and I don't know any woman who has.”

Reference to a Massengill Douche commercial from the 80's, also an allusion to the earlier FG episode, “Brian: Portrait of a Dog” where in Brian's favorite commercial, a daughter asks her mother the same question and the mother reacts in a similar fashion as Lois does.

Peter: “Didn't you do an interview with that fast talking Fed Ex guy?”

Peter is referring to American actor John Moschitta (1954-), (who provided his own voice for this episode).
He had a series of commercials in the 80's for Federal Express & the toy line Micro-Machines due to his ability to speak really fast.

Peter appears as an extra on the long running NBC drama “Law & Order” (1990-Present).

The characters “Det. Lennie Briscoe” (played by Jerry Orbach (1935-2004)) & “Det. Mike Logan” (played by Chris Noth (1954-)) appear in the cutaway.

FOX Executive: “Now run home Lois, run as fast as you can!”

Reference to the 1971 movie “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” when the candy store owner tells Charlie the same thing after he finds the golden ticket.
Once again the instrumental version of “(I've Got a) Golden Ticket” that was sung in the movie by Charlie and Grandpa Joe is used.

Also Lois falling on her boob is a throwback to the earlier episode, “Wasted Talent” when Peter falls and hurts his knee after finding the final silver scroll.

FOX Executive: “That one's kinda fun. It emits a noise only Al Gore can hear”

Former Vice President (1993-2001) under Bill Clinton Al Gore is featured in this episode.

Lois: “I don't see the refrigerator”
FOX Executive: “Oh we just use Ann Coulter”

Controversial conservative Ann Coulter is featured in this episode.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is mentioned in this episode.

Academy Award-winning American filmmaker, author and liberal political commentator Michael Moore is mentioned in this episode.

Stewie: “...like the way Commissioner Gorden tells Batman that he just took a poop”

The characters from the DC comics/movie series “Commissioner Gordon” & “Batman” are featured in this episode

Fred Savage, star of “The Wonder Years” is featured in this episode as masquerading as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Moore, from “Who's the Boss” - Tony Danza, from “The Practice” - Camryn Manheim, from “The Cosby Show” - Malcolm Jamal-Warner, from “Saturday Night Live” - Kevin Nealon, from “Dynasty” - John Forsythe & Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich
