In each episode of Design Rivals, Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman begin by meeting their client away from the space they'll redesign, at a location — such as an art gallery or the gym — which the client feels is reflective of his or her personality. Drawing clues from the meeting, Sabados and Hyndman start to plan the transformation based solely on their perception of the homeowner's personality and passions — leading to some interesting contradictions when they finally see their client's home.
Next comes a behind-the-scenes look at the rivalries, conflicts and alliances at play as they work together — or at odds — to complete each transformation. While the design duo don't always see eye-to-eye, their different perspectives inspire creative solutions, brought to life with the help of their design team, Deb Nelson, Andrew Pike and Blake Messaros.
Finally, to prepare their client for the final reveal, one of the Rivals will set aside his fabric swatches and tape measure to plan a personal experience for their client. Whether it's a helicopter ride, a cooking lesson or an indulgent shopping experience, the personal activity is customized to feed their client's passion and reinforce the connection between the client's personality and their newly designed space.
