Chowder, voiced by Nicky Jones
Chowder is a bear-cat-rabbit hybrid who is serving an apprenticeship at Mung Daal Catering, which is owned and operated by Mung Daal. He aspires to become the greatest chef in the world, though his short attention span and his tendency to consume just about anything in sight have resulted in him causing various problems. However, Chowder has a kind heart and he is genuinely interested in learning what he can from Mung Daal, which is why he is always more than eager to help out when the eccentric old chef is commissioned to prepare yet another exotic dish.
Despite his boundless optimism, Chowder’s naïve and carefree demeanor can, from time to time, strain his relationship with the other citizens of Marzipan City. This is most evident by his relationship with Shnitzel, as even though the two of them truly care about one another, Shnitzel often becomes annoyed by Chowder’s antics, and laments that he is incapable of getting away from him. Fortunately, most people whom Chowder offends tend to forgive him after a while, and one resident, Panini, had even fallen in love with him. However, Chowder isn’t interested in girls and declines her advances.
Chowder lives at Mung Daal Catering’s residential quarters, along with his pet stink cloud, Kimchi. Nothing is known about his parents, though Mung Daal and Truffles treat him well and make sure that he’s taken care of. When he’s not helping out in the kitchen, Chowder is often tasked with retrieving supplies from Gazpacho, or delivering dishes to customers who aren’t capable of retrieving the dish themselves. Despite all of his problems, Chowder does his best and he hopes to learn a lot from Mung Daal, as he wishes to one day follow in his footsteps. |

Mung Daal, voiced by Dwight Schultz
Mung Daal is one of the most well known and accomplished chefs in Marzipan City, and he is also the proprietor of Mung Daal Catering. However, his methods are unorthodox at best. While most chefs follow exact recipes and precise formulas, Mung Daal believes that a chef must have a wild spirit, and be emotionally attached to the dishes that they prepare. He first started cooking three-hundred and eighty-six years ago, when he prepared pickle in a cup, which was his first dish. He then made a batch of burple nurples, and since then, has never looked back.
While little is known about his personal life, he is married to Truffles. The two of them still share a bed, but their relationship has been less than stellar as of late, and Mung Daal often fantasizes about cheating on his wife, even openly flirting with her lady friends when he’s right in front of her. While the two had passionately loved one another at one time, time had withered away their romantic passion. Mung Daal is also known to hate Ms. Endive, his rival and personal nemesis, as he dislikes her strict, disciplinary style of cooking, as it implies his free spirit approach is incorrect.
Despite his talent, Mung Daal believes that he is far better than he actually is. His narcissism often results in him behaving foolishly, as he believes that he’s a great ladies man and that he is the best chef of all time; unlike Truffles, who claims to be the best at what she does due to competitiveness, Mung Daal claims to be the best at what he does because he believes that he’s just naturally great. Regardless, Mung Daal is a gentle man and he has recently been doing everything he can to teach Chowder everything that he knows, as despite the differences, he and Chowder are truly kindred spirits. |

Shnitzel, voiced by John DiMaggio
Shnitzel is a rock monster who is employed by Mung Daal Catering. He has been working with Mung Daal for years, and the two have become great friends, though Shnitzel still dislikes being told what to do. He typically helps Mung Daal prepare a variety of dishes, though when things go awry, he’s usually the one who has to clean up the mess. Unfortunately for him, things have become more hectic when Chowder joined as Mung Daal’s apprentice, as even though the two have a brotherly bond, Chowder often annoys Shnitzel and he creates tons of problems in the kitchen; problems that Shnitzel usually has to resolve.
Unlike Chowder, Shnitzel receives a monetary payment for his laborious duties. What he does with his money is uncertain at this point, but he lives in a home that is outside of Mung Daal Catering, unlike everybody else who works there. Shnitzel is fond of rocks, due to him being a rock monster, and he likes to knit and perform stand-up comedy in his spare time. Unfortunately for him, he is also allergic to cinnamini powder, which has been known to cause problems, as he goes into a sneezing fit each time cinnamini powder is used to make dishes smaller.
The most defining characteristic that Shnitzel has is the fact that he can only say a few words, the primary of which being “radda”. “Radda” is a universal term, which can mean anything; the residents of Marzipan City can understand him perfectly, so his limited vocabulary is never a problem. The other words that he can say are typically small, such as “okay”, “a” and “huh”. Shnitzel may not be the friendliest guy in the world, as he’s grump and easily annoyed, but when all is said and done, he’s a hard working individual at Mung Daal truly appreciates his loyalty. |

Truffles, voiced by Tara Strong
Truffles is married to Mung Daal; she works at Mung Daal Catering, typically at the front desk, where she writes down orders and deals with customers. Despite the fact that they still share a bed, Truffles and Mung Daal’s relationship has been less than stellar; Truffles has lamented that their love live isn’t as good as it used to be, and she routinely hurts and scolds her husband whenever she gets the chance. However, she still seems to love him, and reminisces from time to time about the romantic moments they had in their youth. However, their romantic passion had obviously faded.
While she may seem to be a kind old woman, she is actually rather ruthless. She has been known to do horrible things to people if they don’t share their grubble gum with her, and has threatened to kill or beat Chowder despite the fact that he is merely a child. She also mistreats Shnitzel, as even though he works hard and has earned his place at Mung Daal Catering, she believes that he is lazy and that he doesn’t do a good job. Truffles can be nice to people, though it usually isn’t genuine unless she’s truly happy about something.
She is also an extremely competitive individual and will often go to great lengths to be the best at anything she does, even if it’s something trivial or irrelevant. She refuses to accept any degree of defeat, and would rather have nobody win if she can’t win, which typically creates problems for those around her. Truffles is also one of the few citizens in Marzipan City who are capable of flying without a vehicle, as she has wings on her back; how high or how fast she can fly remains to be seen, though she has no trouble supporting her own weight. |
