Episode Quotes |

Brass: Well, then can you tell us what time Mona got off?
Lady Heather: Knowing Mona, every couple of hours. She enjoyed her work. | Dr. Cornfeld: You should put yourself in her shoes.
Catherine: Trust me, I've been in her shoes. I got out of them.
Dr. Cornfield: Oh, yeah, why's that?
Catherine: They were killing me. | (standing back, looking at the body-containing sandbox from a distance)
Gil: What do you think?
Catherine: I think we got a van full of tools we can't use. Sand's a nightmare.
Grissom: To get to the evidence, we may destroy the evidence.
Catherine: Do you get these haikus out of a book, or do they just come to you? | Catherine: How much does this place clear a week?
Lady Heather: Ten grand.
Catherine: I'm not with the IRS.
Lady Heather: Okay. Twenty.
Catherine: I don't make that in three months.
Lady Heather: Sex pays a lot better than death.
Catherine: Plus the outfits are cooler. | Lady Heather: Don't take this the wrong way but you'd make a good dominatrix.
Catherine: I take that as a compliment.
Lady Heather: Well, you should. | Brass: Were there any disturbances last night? Did you hear screams?
Lady Heather: It's when I don't hear screams that I start to worry. | Lady Heather: When I thought Zoe was ready to hear it, I told her, "Honey, there are a lot of things you can give a man -- your body, your time, even your heart. But the one thing you can never, ever, ever let go of is your power."
Catherine: All my mother ever said to me was "Cash up front." | Catherine: I just realized that you and I have a very healthy relationship.
Gil: We do?
Catherine: Well, when we have a problem, I don't paint Greg Sanders in latex and stick a straw up his nose.
Gil: Good. He'd probably like it.
Catherine: Gil ... you're supposed to say something revealing back to me.
Gil: Okay. I never told anybody this, Catherine ... | Jim: Thousand square miles of desert in Vegas, this perp dumps the body in a sandbox...
Gil: He didn't put it here to hide it. He put it here to be found. | Catherine: Not to mention some serious breast augmentation. That is not a Tijuana boob job. Those puppies are top of the line. Gives us a pair of serial leads. Can you grab me one of those?
Al: Left or right?
Catherine: Dealer's choice. | Lady Heather: Let me guess. Three police officers looking for respite from having to control and dominate our big, bad city... | Lady Heather: Captain Brass, surely you don't think sexual contact is the only means of fulfillment?
Jim: Lady Heather, you don't want to know what I think. | Sara: What do you know about the money bag?
Lab Tech: Clean cut. Quick way in.
Warrick: Can you tell us anything about the tool that may have been used?
Lab Tech: BFK.
Sara: Big knife. Great. Tell us something we don't know. | Gil: Afternoon teea. How nice.
Lady Heather: I like a bit of civility before dark, when all the needy little boys show up. | Gil: You're very good. You could work for me.
Lady Heather: You want to be my boss?
Gil: You never know. We both might learn something.
Lady Heather: Oh, I'm sure of that... | Lady Heather: The most telling thing about anyone is what scars them... And I know what you fear more than anything, Mr. Grissom.
Gil: Which is?
Lady Heather: Being known. You can't accept that I might know what you really desire because that would mean that I know you. |

Grissom: Every time you find a body, you have to choose a path and when you take that path, Grasshopper, you risk destroying the evidence.
Catherine: We grab a trowel and some fine mesh screens and we just pretend like we're panning for gold... Master.
Master and Grasshopper are both allusions to the popular 70's TV show Kung Fu, which starred David Carradine., and the traditional Oriental Master/Student relationship. Catherine and Grissom are both acknowledging their respect for each other, him to her as worthy to teach, her to him as an acknowledged master of his area of expertise. | (walking into an "active" S&M session... The Dom sees them enter)
Dominatrix: All right, Randolph, You may lick my boots and go...
Randolph: Is it because I'm naughty?
Dominatrix: Go on!!
(Catherline looks at Nick. He smiles a bit.)
Dominatrix: Get up!
(Catherine and Nick move deeper into the room.)
Catherine: I feel like I'm trapped in the Marquis De Sade's brain pan.
The Marquis de Sade was a French author whose works explored sexual freedom (particularly S&M). His name, de Sade, has become the primary meme associated with the impulse towards enjoying the suffering of others, hence "Sadism" (as opposed to "Masochism", derived from the name of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, an early writer of works about it) |

Catherine: All my mother ever said to me was "Cash up front."
Catherine's reference to her mother is brought up again in the episode "Weeping Willows" in the following exchange:
Lily: I was a working mother too, you know.
Catherine: There but for the grace of God... |

Analysis |
| |
The following, while not actually containing a spoiler, does deal in a clinical manner regarding S&M. It seemed appropriate to prevent anyone from inadvertently reading it on the chance of offense:
"S&M" Sadism and Masochism, should be differentiated from "B&D", "Bondage and Discipline". While at first guess, they may appear to be interchangeable, they are in fact separated by a substantial line. S&M, on both sides, is about pain, and, indirectly, control over pain and its infliction on another. B&D is about control, but usually in a lighter sense, and may not involve pain at all. Tying up a lover and then pleasuring them is about them giving up the control of their pleasure to you, even more so than normally. As long as the B&D is restrained, it can be utterly harmless and even allow for a little variety in one's sex life, which can be beneficial to a relationship. S&M is usually a sign of a deeper psychological issue, where the qualities usually associated with the socially positive -- altruism, consideration, and empathy -- are inverted or otherwise negated for the Sadist, while common sense self-preservation responses (flight from pain, avoidance of harm) are suppressed in the Masochist. Neither need be debilitating, but generally suggest a deeper problem or need is being suppressed rather than dealt with, requiring a cathartic release in the form of Sadistic or Masochistic experience. |
