Buffy's friends try to cope with Buffy's death and are left to defend Sunnydale without her. Meanwhile a gang of marauding demons threaten to jeopardize their plan to bring the slayer back from the dead. To complicate matters, Giles contemplates leaving Sunnydale to come to terms with the loss.

This was the first episode to air on UPN. Over the summer, UPN launched a huge promotion campaign using the phrase "Buffy Lives!" in it's advertisements.

This episode scored a 6.2/9 in the ratings.

This episode ranked 2nd out of 9 UPN shows for the week.

UPN aired both episodes of Bargaining as a 2 Hour Network Series Premiere event for its original broadcast.

As of this episode, Anthony Stewart Head is no longer featured in the opening credits.

As of this episode, Alyson Hannigan now gets the coveted "and" slot at the end of the opening credits.
