| Rob Lowe's character's name, Robert McCallister, was previously used by executive producer Greg Berlanti in his WB series, Jack and Bobby. Parallels to Jack & Bobby also include Robert being married to a woman named Courtney and a son named Jack.
| Production changes: In the original pilot, the Walker family matriarch was named Iva and was played by Betty Buckley. The role was later recast with Sally Field and renamed to Nora. The pilot also included Bryan, who was played by Jonathan LaPaglia, which was later recast with Matthew Rhys and renamed Kevin. Kevin's storyline also changed from being an ex-husband recently coming to grips with his homosexuality to a single lawyer comfortable with his sexuality.
