Show Tidbits
Boston Legal is a spin-off of another David E. Kelley show, The Practice.

James Spader (Alan Shore) and William Shatner (Denny Crane) are the only actors to appear in every episode.

The offices of Crane, Pool, & Schmidt are located at 500 Boylston Street in the Back Bay Section of Boston. The epilogue of nearly every episode features Alan Shore and Denny Crane sitting on Crane's office balcony enjoying a cigar and sipping scotch. The actual building has no balconies whatsoever. In addition, the skyline depicted as viewed from Crane's balcony is of the downtown financial district, more than a mile away. This view is simply not possible from the building in Back Bay.

The gray, two story building depicted as a courthouse is actually the original section of the Boston Public Library. It is one block west of 500 Boylston Street, where the offices of Crane, Pool, & Schmidt are located. The buildings can easily be seen from one another across Copley Square Park. In some scene setting location shots, both buildings are shown or there is a pan from one to the other across the park. This gives the audience the illusion that the firm's offices are located in close proximity to the courthouse, when in fact, the building depicted is over a mile from any of the courthouses in Boston.
