When construction workers find human remains in a 1950s fallout shelter, the skeleton is brought to the Jeffersonian for identification. As Zack cuts into the bone, deadly spores are released leading to the quarantine of the lab over Christmas. While everyone else tries to keep the holiday spirit up, Brennan focuses solely on solving the mystery of the man in the fallout shelter. As she works to bring closure to the unidentified man's family, being quarantined in the lab acts as a catalyst in bringing the entire team closer together.

Episode Quotes |
| |
Booth: (to Brennan) What are you, like the Christmas killer? | Dr. Goodman: For a father like myself, like Agent Booth, a few glowing test tubes don't make up for missing Christmas morning with the children.
Hodgins: Excuse me?
Zack: Be kind. Rewind
Angela: Booth has a son? | Zack: Christmas is going home to Michigan and heading out into the woods with your brothers to cut down a 12 foot Christmas tree and you all decorate it together - brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Forty people who all love you and are happy to see you. That, my friend, is the true meaning of Christmas. | Angela: I need you. Friends don't let friends photocopy their butts at Christmas parties. | Hodgins: I got into the decontamination shower with Zack. Haven't I been through enough hell? | Dr. Goodman: Were you conforming to autopsy protocol?
Zack: One of us was.
Hodgins: The other was drinking an egg nog. | Brennan: You have a son?
Booth: Yeah.
Brennan: You've never mentioned that.
Booth: Well, nothing brings people together like a Christmas lung fungus. | Zack: I'm a rational empiricist all the way. Unless you talk to my mother, then I'm Lutheran. | Hodgins: Although I believe organized religion is just another political movement designed to control the masses, it doesn't mean God doesn't love me. | Booth: That weirdo assistant of yours just made me the coolest dad in the world. | Booth: If this is fatal, I will shoot both of you. |

Episode Goofs |

The raised portion of the lab is restricted and one must have card access in order to get into it. However, men from the FBI are able to get through without a card while bringing Booth a body bag. | When Angela talks about Brennan's past with Booth, he acts as if he has never heard about her parents before. However, in the "Pilot", Booth learns about her past and references it in "The Girl in the Fridge". | While quarantined, the team talks about Lionel's girlfriend, Ivy, being pregnant in 1958. In the end, however, Ivy states that she gave birth in 1960, two years later. |
