Special Agent Seeley Booth requests the help of Dr. Temperance Brennan, a top forensic anthropologist, to help provide information when skeletal remains are found in the bottom of a lake. With help from her team of specialists, Brennan determines the body is that of an aide to a Washington congressman. As Brennan provides Booth a series of clues, she wants in on the case. Though skeptical at first, Booth agrees to a partnership. However, Brennan may be in over her head as she leaves the lab and goes out into the field.

Episode Quotes |
| |
Booth: It's like pornography. You'll know it when you see it. | Brennan: My most meaningful relationships are with dead people. | Zack: Your suit, for example, will outlast your bones by decades. | Booth: A decomposed corpse was found this morning at Arlington National Cemetery.
Brennan: Arlington National Cemetery is full of decomposed corpses. It's a cemetery. | Booth: You expect me, a federal agent, to declare war on a United States Senator based on your little holographic crystal ball? | Dr. Goodman: Go polish a bone, Mr. Addy. | Booth: He's got no sense of discretion, that kid. Typical squint.
Brennan: I don't know what that means.
Booth: When cops get stuck, we bring in people like you. You know, squints. You know, squint at things.
Brennan: Oh, you mean people with very high IQ's and basic reasoning skills. | Dr. Goodman: Dr. Brennan, are you playing me?
Brennan: You know I'm no good at that.
Dr. Goodman: Thus far, but you have a disturbingly steep learning curve. | Booth: Bones identifies bodies for us.
Brennan: Don't call me Bones and I do more than identify. |

Episode Goofs |
| |
At the beginning of the episode a plane is landing under an on-screen title of "Dulles International Airport" with the Capital Building prominently shown behind the runway. Dulles International Airport, though, is approximately 25 miles west of Washington DC. | At the funeral, Temperance places a rose on the coffin amongst a few others, and she walks away from the congregation with Booth. When the screen pans back, Cleo's father places a rose on the coffin in the same place Temperance did, except there is only one there. | A crew member can be seen as Brennan and Booth interview Oliver. | As Brennan leaves the Jeffersonian, the bags she brings with her disappear and reappear between shots. | Before Brennan shoots Thompson, he had pulled a lighter out of his pocket. However, when the bullet hits his leg, his hand is in his pants pocket pulling the lighter out again. |
