Episode Notes

Survivor count: 39,644

This episode begins without the textual prologue, going immediately into the recap. Additionally, due to the events of the previous two episodes, the text that ends the title sequence leaves off the words "called Earth" and instead lingers on the word "home".

It's revealed that Nicky is not a Cylon-human hybrid because his biological father is actually Hotdog.

Although the webisode series "The Face of the Enemy" was released prior to the previous episode, it is clearly set between "Sometimes a Great Notion" and this episode.

Based on what Lee lets slip at the press conference in the teaser, it can be surmised that Tigh has shared his discovery of the remaining member of the Final Five.

This episode marks Ron Moore's directorial début and his only directing effort for the series.

The death count from the Fall of the Twelve Colonies is given as 50 billion, though in The Resistence webisodes it's stated to be 20 billion. It is not known whether this is a retcon or simply an overlooked continuity error.

This is one of three episodes that feature an extended version available on the Season 4.5 DVD.

Episode Quotes

Ishay: That's a lot of smoking around a pregnant lady.
Cottle: She'll live.

Gaeta: I mean, Earth's a cinder; Dee's dead; suicides are up; fleet's a mess; the President's missing in action, but, hey, gotta make sure the Cylons are taken care of.

Zarek: Permanent alliance between this government and the Cylons - any Cylons - is out of the question. I hope you both know that.
Lee: Yeah? Well, it's not your call.
Zarek: Is it yours? Are you the President again? Sorry, I get confused what your job is on any given day.

Zarek: If you try to shove an alliance with the Cylons down our throats, they'll be consequences, Admiral. I promise you.
Adama: Thank you, Mr. Zarek. Makes it a little bit easier to know who to hold responsible if there's an unfortunate incident.
Zarek: I'm not hard to find, Admiral. I'm right here. Running the government.
Adama: For now.

Tyrol: Their technology - our technology is way ahead of ours... yours.
Tigh: Maybe you'd like a chart to keep it all straight.

Gaeta: You tried to throw me out an airlock once.
Kara: Still crying about that?
Gaeta: The charges at the time were collaborating with an enemy in a time of war.
Kara: Waiting for the punch line.
Gaeta: Turns out the jury that convicted me was made of two Cylons... and a woman married to a Cylon.
Kara: Rimshot! Big laugh, applause, applause, applause! Are we done? Oh, no. Wait. I'm sorry, I forgot. We haven't gotten to the leg yet. 50 billion people are dead and I'm supposed to give a frak about your leg?
Gaeta: Who killed those 50 billion people, Kara?
Kara: It wasn't me.
Gaeta: No, it was your husband.
Kara: Are you enjoying yourself? Is this how you get your kicks these days? Oh, wait, I'm sorry. I meant half-kicks.
Gaeta: What was Sam doing on Caprica before he so convinvently met you? You ever wonder? You think maybe he... nuked a few cities? Executed a few thousand prisoners? I'm just wondering. Well, then again, maybe your a Cylon, too.
Kara: At least I'm not a gimp.

Gaeta: One day, one day soon, there's gonna be a reckoning, Kara. And once again, people are going to have to answer for what they've done.
Kara: Is that a threat?
Gaeta: You're godsdamn right that's a threat.
Kara: Well, you know where to find me, Felix. And in case you're wondering, I will definitely hit a cripple. (to the others in the rec room) Or anyone else.
Gaeta: (as Kara walks away) So I guess a pity frak's out of the question then?

Helo: She jumped. Hitei Kan has jumped away, sir.
Tigh: Taking all our fuel with them.
Adama: You know, there are days that I really hate this job.
