Commander/Admiral William Adama, played by Edward James Olmos
Admiral Adama is the commander of the Battlestar Galactica, an old Battlestar that's on it's way to retirement when the Cylons attack. Suddenly, one of Galactica's weaknesses, its poor computer network, becomes it's greatest strength as she, under Adama's command, leads the civilian fleet away from Cylon destruction. In the beginning, Adama wanted to turn back and fight the Cylons, even if it meant going out in a blaze of glory. But it was his desire to see humanity survive this catastrophe that convinced him to turn away from home, and give the fleet something new to hope for: Earth. Shortly after the attack, Adama lied to the citizens of the surviving fleet and told them he knew the location of Earth that had been kept secret for two thousand years. He gave everyone hope that they might somehow find a new home, hope that would soon be degraded after months of Cylon attacks, terrorist sabotage, and political subterfuge...
Because of the gritty sound of his voice, Adama's call sign is "Husker". |
