Michael Latham is kidnapped in a staged car crash and Jack Bauer faces the law when he is in a trial for his actions with CTU in 2002. However, FBI interrupts the trial when they need Jack for a national security crisis involving a CIP device able to take control of air traffic. Meanwhile, the President's husband begins investigating their son's death while she handles the on-going crisis in Sangala. Also, Jack is shocked to learn that Tony Almeida is alive and working with the enemy.
In the White House, the President is watching CN3 news channel, and the text scrolling on the lower part of the screen says:
"... to highest level in 15 years. Sangala standoff day 65: General Juma continues to refuse UN inspectors access to suspected "Deat..." "
In order to get what he needs, Jack is willing to torture a suspect by poking them in the eye with a pen. Although he doesn't actually do it in this episode, he gets really close.
